Leah,

The topic of this thread was Shoes being willing to marry for health insurance. Since I don't have coverage to offer her, I did not propose marriage. Being in a similar boat, I then stated that I would also be willing to marry for heath insurance.

I only mention Barack and Hillary because they have both stated that they will address this issue. A Republican administration will do nothing. Any proposal by Barack or Hillary will be bantered about in Congress and who knows what the final legislation, if any, will be passed in the end.

Merits of any particular approach can be debated on another thread if you like. My whole point is that our health care system needs reform. We can do better.

A Republican will do nothing...or do you mean you havn't read anything about what the Republicans are proposing..

McCain: Would allow individuals to shop across state lines for health coverage and would change how Medicare and Medicaid pay doctors and hospitals in attempt to cut medical costs.

Hillary and Obamas solution is to force, make it mandatory, for all Americans to purchase their own insurance.
If you cant afford it now, how is that a solution.noway

I don't have the answers. I just know that SOMETHING needs to be done. As for Republican proposals, these are fine and dandy, but dont' go near far enough. The system needs significant reform now before we face a real crisis. I dont't care if it's public, private or a combination thereof.

shoes4rhon...... I am not being a wise guy, but have you tried the welfare offices? I don't know if this is applicable to your state or not. I checked and saw you do not live in Pennsylvania the way I do. At any event, my local Congressman and State Senator are always mailing out brochures advising their constituents what bills they are sponsoring or what bills have gone into law. One of the brochures I received outlined that fact that in Pennsylvania a low-income person who is working is eligible for State Medicad, which is different from Medicare. Most of the time since that low income person is working he/she cannot get food stamps or cash assistance, but can get the state Medicad, which pays for everything. The co-pays are three to five dollars. Why not ascertain if your state has something akin to this?

leah no offense take but I make too much for that but not enough to afford the eight hundred dollar month premium and still make a living but thank you for the suggestion .. Right now I just can't get sick .. I had to take my grandmother to the hospital yesterday and after an 9.5 hour wait in the waiting room .. ( so now I prob will get sick) we finally got to a dr ... I don't care who is right , I don't care who is wrong we have a crisis on our hands and someone needs to fix it .. Someone needs to remember us little guys .. the self employed get hit the hardest in stagflation..
