Topic: The man, the horse and the waitress? | |
---|---|
OK, so instead of posting MORE political regurgitation(?) I read this story today about a man who was so pleased with his service and the waitress providing it that as a tip he gave her a horse.
Now I realize that this really couldnt happen anywhere else but my birth place, but I was just wondering, well A. what was he thinking, B. do you think it was a cool kinda thing to do, and C. would you ever do anything like it yourself- I mean Ive never done something so radical before myself, and besides the occassional 20 tip i dont think i ever would, must have been some damn good food. any thoughts on this. what was your craziest gift/tip given? |

Doc:
If the waitress was a horse person thats a great tip. One thing that must be considered is what is positive reinforcement for one may be punishment to another. i.e. To the alpha type personality being called in front of his peers and praised would be positive reinforcement but to a very shy person the same thing may make them very uncomfortable and actually be punishing. Same with the horse, if you like them, have a place for them etc its great. The man has to be commended for his generosity though. I bet the lady was overwhelmed. |

yeah, that was my take on it too, not the wise alpha comment but the generosity.
you dont hear about that kind of thing anymore, everybody so caught up in trying to live their lives constantly looking straight forward never looking around to take in the sites. Its just good to hear about random, unsolicited, noncontrite acts of kindness. Man I bet he felt like he was santa clause. Thanks for the reply, and the wisdom. |

Doc, I guess that depends: Right now in southern Ohio, Hay is a very short commodity, and right now I know of people giving horses away just to avoid having to feed them. A guy told us the other day ,that at the local auction barn, that when he came out leave ,there were 4 horses tied to the outside of his trailer . I hear that is not uncommon lately here. It seems that most all the farmers around here are desperately short of hay. We got a free fancy young horse ,all trained and been fixed(broke)(castrated) last month ,and now we have been offered two more for free, but we turned them down. I just thought that some folks would be surprised to hear of such stuff. Now if that waitress was in southern ,Ohio, nobody here would likely be suprised. I guess a guy could eat horse burgers.

why is there such a shortage of hay there, did you guys go thru a drought this year. well, at least you got a horse out of the deal, huh? hope you dont have to eat him its still pretty unsual i would venture to say, arent they pretty pricey? |

Lindyy says: Well...first he was a bit eccentric. Which is kind of a fun thing. Second, she probably had a conversation with him during her time of waiting on and serving him,and the subject of horses came up and she stated how she likes horses. OTHERWISE, I would think it rather expensive to keep a horse, feeding, maintaining it in good health, plus a place and land to keep it. Sooo, I would not think he would give such a valuable gift unless he knew she would love it and keep it properly. So, my summation, she loves horses, he knew it and that was his way of expressing his appreciation. Yes, I would do something like that IF I had the money for such an expensive gift and knew it would be well taken care of and really loved. Not much fun giving if it is not going to be loved. Did you ever look at the face of a child when given a special little treat, something simple as ice cream? That look alone is sooooo rewarding. My craziest gift/tip given? Well, to me it was not crazy, but when I was a little girl I loved pickles and ketchup. One year for Christmas my grandpap gave me a jar of pickles and ketchup all wrapped up. I thought it was the greatest gift ever - I loved my grandpap. Lindyy |

They sure did, and the parents were so pleased.. nothing brings warmth to the heart like kids smiling and having fun. and getting the appreciation from adults over something like that,,,, the unintended side effect of feeling rewarded, priceless. |

I wouldn't mind a pony though....
Or better yet, a camel... maybe if I wait tables in Arabia... I might get a camel as a tip.. |

Doc: Seems like you are a really great dad! I never did learn to ride a bike. Kept falling off. Gave up after a ton of cuts and bruises. Oh, well. Lindyy |
