if you feel God has turned his back on you and losing faith? I have had many opinions from churches. Most say to pray...but what if you have prayed for non selfish...good things and nothing happens?

I figured this would be the place to ask.

When I pray for non selfish...good things I usually end the prayer with If it is thy will. things that seem non selfish...good things aren't necessarily Gods will therefore they do not happen. It does not however mean God has turned his back on me. It just means he has plans which I do not know of at this time and what I am praying for does not fall within his plan. Given time and continued prayer Gods plans eventually are revealed and I understand why my prayers, at first, weren't answered. flowerforyou

I'm not religious either, but my grandfather was a minister. He always said when people felt that the good lord wasnt listening or turned his back, is when he was testing thier strength....

take it for what its worth

Always pray and repent in Jesus' name, God will listen, only through Jesus will your prayer be heard. That's what I've been taught.

Answering prayers would destroy faith. Faith is believing in something with out having any physical proof that it exists. If you prayed for anything and it appeared then you would have knowledge and not faith. So God does not answer prayers or interfere in our life on earth in any way.

Secondly if you decided that you wanted to go to a new church that God just hated and he started making your car break down. He made your kids ill and made it very obvious that, that Church was a bad one. Then you would no longer have free will.

So if you think it is important to have faith in God and you believe in Free will then you have to know that God does not interfere in our world. No miricals for you,no matter how big or small.
There are many people in here who's faith and relationship with God has been greatly improved by applying basic logic to their religion. The most interesting thing about that statement is that in Christianity logic is sometimes looked at as a sin greater then all others. It is often pointed out that it is one of the Devils great tools. So you would need to be brave enough to not let the Church tell you that studying is a sin.

Good Luck

Which god?

Life is an ebb and flow, abundance and lean times, why blame an unknown entity...?

This may not be the place to post this but I question the whole religion theary. If there is a god then why do children get abused? What about an 80 year old man that gets stabbed and robbed? A woman who gets beat daily by an abusive husband? I disagree...all things don't happen for a reason. If there is a god then why would he turn his back at all?

I guess it depends on which myth, or which story one prescribes to...

A jealous god, a righteous god, a compassionate god, a forgiving god, a 'pick a god, any god, custom made to suit you' god...

So is god in the details?

Or just around when the times are tough.... I know! The 'lay the blame on god', god! bigsmile

I was in that same position once -- finally decided to stop waiting for some fictional character to do something, I got off my ass and dealt with it myself. It can actually be a very liberating and enlightening experience....

Yellowrose, you are fine...

I find I make my own decisions... I create my own environment, and when stuff happens beyond my control... it's usually a great way of developing more resilience...

I dont have any affinity with a christian god... nor any others really... so I have no requirement for 'blaming' that god.

And really, it is a form of blaming... sh*t happens, two choices, get up and get on with it, or lay blame on someone else...

If you feel God or whomever has turned away from you, you have to take a step back and try to understand the lesson that is being taught. That is a gift unto itself. We all have problems we go threw in life, and life lessons are a certainty, Learn what you can from every situation, and let that be your gift.

Ok - YellowRose, Make one fianl prayer (for now). Tell God that you have things to do. You have so much to experience and to learn. Thank god for giving you a capable mind, a body that will move to YOUR WILL, and then let God know that you will proceed in the best way you know how and any help would be apprecieted, however, you will not forget the greatest "help" of all, has already been granted. A capable mind and a body that will follow YOUR will.

Then my dear, get on with your life. Our time here is never assured and the more time you spend in despair, with regret, with remorse, the more time you waste. Smile and make choices, based on your best reasoning skills, and move girl, just move.

Some day you may feel compelled to pray again, but remember to be thankful, in that prayer, for a mind and body that will MOVE FORWARD at your will.

Your will is "free" for you to control. Do not expect a god to provide the motivation to use it. Life proceeds whether you are part of it or not. So snap out of the funk, and either walk in this life of your own volition, or watch as others pass you by.

This is meant in the most positive way possible. I think you have received many good answer's here. (I personally think that if you put many people together and ask them for information you get close to the voice of God) Anyway, It looks like from your response here you already had an answer in mind when you asked the question. I think that may be a trap you are falling into in life. It just doesn't seem to go the way we want, the best thing to do is like the place we are.
