Edwards Joins Obama Supporters in New Antiwar Effort

Former presidential candidate John Edwards (D-N.C.), whose endorsement is sought by Democratic presidential rivals Sens. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.) and Barack Obama (Ill.), will join several groups that have endorsed Obama in a new effort to end the Iraq war.

Edwards will appear on a Monday morning conference call with officials from the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) and MoveOn.org, which have both endorsed Obama. Edwards has yet to make an endorsement since he left the presidential race in January after placing third in several early primaries.

Edwards, his wife, Elizabeth, and other members of the effort will announce a "multimillion dollar" effort called the Iraq/Recession Campaign that aims to highlight the ongoing cost of the Iraq war, according to a press release. The group is attempting to tie the Iraq war to fears that the U.S. is entering a recession.

"As economic concerns weigh heavily on the minds of Americans, opposition to President Bush's reckless war in Iraq continues to grow," the group said in the release.

Other Democratic groups joining the campaign include VoteVets.org, Americans United for Change and the Center for American Progress, the liberal think tank led by John Podesta, a former aide to President Bill Clinton. None of those organizations, however, has endorsed a candidate for president.

He hasn't join Obama's supporters/efforts. It is a separate and noble cause. The headline is misleading(The Hill with lead writer **** Morris sometimes lends itself to such news).

There hasn't been an official endorsement and judging from what is in the news , it is unlikely to come soon.

Evidently friends of Obama are also friends of John Edwards, that is good enough for me.

They are not friends. John Edwards is sucking up to Obama, because John Edwards believes Obama will be president, and Edwards wnats to be Attorney General.

you don't think Edwards is looking at VP?...with the grand canyon rift between Obama and Hillary caused by the childish antics of the two, neither would want to be second to the other...

northrnyanke...... No. I believe he wants Attorney General. I don't remember where I heard it since I am continually channel surfing to watch the political talk shows. I do not like regular TV, except for the CSI shows and court tv programs. At any event, a group of pundits were dismissing him wanting VP and claimed it was Attorney General he wanted. Remember, Edwards is a trial lawyer, so it would make sense.


You probably know this, but I am sure there are others who do not, so I am posting this for them. The US Attorney General is the head of the United States Department of Justice, which is concerned with legal affairs and is the chief law enforcement officer of the United States government. The Attorney General is considered to be the chief lawyer of the US government. The Attorney General serves as a member of the President's Cabinet, but is the only cabinet department head who is not given the title Secretary.

With Edwards being a trial lawyer, if he serves in the above position, it would set him up for life and give him very powerful friends so that he could go into the office of the presidency in 2012 much easier than he would if he were vice president.

that does make sense...so I wonder who Obama is going to take on as a VP...someone who has been in the game for a long time so he could get some guidance that he'll need with the lack of experience he has....

I agree that Edwards would be comfortable with the AG job. I wonder though how Obama could ever control Edwards since Edwards has much more experience than Obama and is every bit of a smooth talker as Obama is...
