I have a beautiful 6 year old , who means EVERYTHING to me.
I try to keep her happy, but lately she has asked why she doesn't have any "Real" Grandparents.
I don't know what to tell her. My mother is an addict and is still very abusive tward me and... his parents are not involved because they don't like that I am part Mexican. In other words, I aint 100% Irish.
Its So hard to look into her tearful eyes.
Any Advice?

yep tell her that ignornace is a horrible thing and sometimes people let their ignornance rule their life. Explain that it's not her fault. It's not your fault. Sometimes things just don't go the way they should. But that you love her very much and she's very special.

try honesty....or....a older person you trust as a grand parent figure until she is old enough to understand...

sweety the only thing you can do for your daughter... is teach her to be different. Don't let her be that way, stop the ignorance. Teach her how wrong it is to treat people that way. You daughter will learn, I promise. They are stronger than you might think.

My kids have no grandparents and havent for nine years... either side of their family...

We have adopted grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins... our genetic family is just the five of us, but our extended'family' is vast.

Explain to her that in her lifetime she will have many mothers sisters, brothers, fathers, grandparents, they may just not come in the standard variety...flowerforyou

i'd smile and tell her that families come in all sizes and shapes; that there is no "right" size for one.

i'd tell her that while some children have grandparents, other children only have a mom, and still others have many daddies.
