Bush was not elected in .. he stole the election using his brothers state to have chad problems ..

Bush was elected fairly. All of the recounts showed this. In fact, after the recounts (wherein Democrats were caught cheating...one was eatting the chads) Bush had won by a slightly larger margin.

Imagine this...anti-Bush sources report that he was cheating!
Pro-Bush sources report that the dems were cheating!

No one will ever really know what happened.

No, but they shouldn't have stopped the florida recount after just 3 counties either way;^]

All votes were recounted. Gore's team sued in three counties, where the majority of people were democrats, they specifically didn't want a full recount. Gore's team fought to prevent the counting of ballots from deployed soldiers, because the ballots were received late. When the final recount was done, Bush won. A full recount was done by several news organizations and they all found that Bush won.

Just because someone is mentally ill or has a diagnosis of a mental illness, does not mean that they are unable to make an informed decision. There are lots of individual that have mental illnesses such as depression, bipolar, and even SZ, that can make informed decisions. There is a stigma around mental illness and there isn't anything different about most of them compared to everyone else.

So true Tanya. As far as I am concerned, if you have a mental illness, so what? You are no different than the person missing a leg or an arm. HOWEVER if you have been diagnosed with a child like mentality, in other words you are physically an adult, but only have the mind of a child, then no that particular person should still have the same rights and such that any other child would have (which does not include voting).

You are thinking of the serenity prayer, which goes like this...

God, grant me the Serenity
To accept the things I cannot change...
Courage to change the things I can,
And Wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time,
Enjoying one moment at a time,
Accepting hardship as the pathway to peace.
Taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is,
Not as I would have it.
Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His will.
That I may be reasonably happy in this life,
And supremely happy with Him forever in the next.
Amen.

Should the mentally ill be able to vote? It would seem that since this topic is in the Current News and Events Forum that a more appropriate topic would be,

"Should the mentally ill be able to run for office?" since some of the candidates that are running for office fit that category. laugh laugh
