This is my first year living in PA. So this is the first time i had to file taxes. What is this local tax all about. All i know is i had to pay $1,038.00. Where did the idea of this local tax come from, and why?

It's so the city/town can do their thing. Be happy you don't live in philly I paid over double that in wage taxes.

Who ever said they had to have a reason for any taxes? They're too lazy to do the math and balance the budget,so they just make up new ways to get more money. Sorta like how we now have a drink tax to pay for public buses

Where did the idea of this local tax come from, and why? OH, you poor, poor, guy. PA - land of the taxes. Local tax - like your borough, municipal tax so the borough can (supposedly) run the local borough, i.e., police, road maintenance, maybe some goes to the volunteer fire and ambulance services, etc. Isn't living in PA fun? Oh, wait till you buy a house and have to pay real estate property taxes!
I am constantly keeping in touch with my reps. to see what is taking place on this issue, they are trying to get a lot of the taxes off of the homes, especially the school taxes. I am sooooo angry, I have put more than my share of kids through school. 
But, my Rep in PA Congress is Sean Logan, he is a democrat (never thought I would vote for or work with a democrat on ANYTHING) but he is great, he wants to get ALL taxes off the homes. Too many seniors lose their homes that they have worked for and taken care of all their lives just because of those god forsaken property taxes. Damn, I pay $240 a month property taxes on my teeny beanie little ranch house. That is more than my gas bill.
It can be done, other states do not have taxes on their homes.

Hey come to allegheny county we have all the stupid pa taxes and now they are taxing alchohol 10% and I thought that the days of moonshine where gone Thanks Dan Onorato love paying to bail out mass transit that I dont even use.

Sorry, I live in Allegheny,Co. and ride those busses. Makes you want to stop after you get off the bus and get a drink! My bus fare went up from $2.25 one way to $2.60 one way, in addition to those other taxes bailing out PAT. Poorest mismanaged business in the US. Lindyy

Just be happy your in Pennslyvania I just moved from NJ the state taxes are higher than my PA state and local taxes combined.
