With that blank screen look. That's not good, huh? I mean, the back light is on... but the screen is blank. I don't know what to do.

Hold the middle button, and menu button down at the same time until it re-boots. Shouldn't take long.

Try pushing on the center button and the menue button at the same time it will re-set. Might help just keep holding it until you see the apple

Okay, so... I've mashed buttons, swore at it, killed it before it killed me, yelled at it, and kissed it. Now it's telling me to charge it when I already have it charging. :(

Maybe you need to turn it off for awhile.

lol. I'd turn it off if it let me. It's just the blank screen of death with an alluring light.
