GEHC -- Yeah, actually I think if you have the obligatory catchy coffee house name, there's no problem. Just make sure you've got people bumping it up to the top on a regular basis -- you know, that's the same forum where the "I'm Bored" posts go, and you have to ensure that you don't get buried amongst the masses of the bored & boring....!

I am a massage therapist by trade and Reiki Master , I think that it would be good since there is so much Wrong information out there ..Education is the key to a better understanding of Eastern Medicine.. There is room for both Eastern and Western Medicine.... Knowledge of balancing the meridians could help lots of folks .... flowerforyou flowerforyou

I know I'm lways up to learning new things, and thinking outside my box.
As a child of a medical family, my first instinct is always to either take something or go to my doctor, except for those random occasions when I suffer stupidly and stoically in relative silence.
I'd be interested in hearing about other sides....
I stay far, far away from the religion threads, so this would be a good thing for me. flowerforyou

Glad you stopped in on this one lilithflowerforyou
I will probably open the thread under Coffee Houses after I set up some ground rules for it... I have to try to keep hijackers out once it gets started.... so ground rules help.

Hey now... shoes.. are those props or are you trying to ruin what little cred I might have left?

I will do my utmost to follow the rules, but keep in mind we cannot make them, we just have to do our best to follow the guidelines already laid out for us members.

Awww. my lovely lady shoes...

Yeah.. Kojak I agree the rules are different, but please don't tell Lex as I am actively considering stalking him.

Can we jump right in? I've been asking Rhon for some advice on my back. It is lower back pain, centralized, throbbing and stabbing intermittantly with movement. It happened a few days ago while I slept, and got worse after changing a tire this morning. I'm at about a five on the rating scale now and am going to see my DO this afternoon. Ideas?

Check your email ..but excellent start .. lower back pain is horrible .. I sent you my reccomendations but I do want to warn everyone out there that this thread should be in no way a substitute for common sense and medical care .. It would be irresponsible and out of my scope of practice has a massage therapist to diagnose .. Lilth you know I am big on accupuncture .. I have an appointment at 10 20 today ...whooot

Nah, this is just an anti-spam safeguard. There has been some occasional discussion about whether or not it's feasible to do something like a mass mailout to everyone on your friends list, for example -- but it's never really been a priority because the issue gets raised so infrequently.

And, on the upside, I see a LOT less spam here than I do on other sites. So you may just have to send out 1000 individual notes!

The term "acupuncture" describes a family of procedures involving the stimulation of anatomical points on the body using a variety of techniques. The acupuncture technique that has been most often studied scientifically involves penetrating the skin with thin, solid, metallic needles that are manipulated by the hands or by electrical stimulation.

Practiced in China and other Asian countries for thousands of years, acupuncture is one of the key components of traditional Chinese medicine. In TCM, the body is seen as a delicate balance of two opposing and inseparable forces: yin and yangThe concept of two opposing yet complementary forces described in traditional Chinese medicine. Yin represents cold, slow, or passive aspects of the person, while yang represents hot, excited, or active aspects. A major theory is that health is achieved through balancing yin and yang and disease is caused by an imbalance leading to a blockage in the flow of qi.. Yin represents the cold, slow, or passive principle, while yang represents the hot, excited, or active principle. According to TCM, health is achieved by maintaining the body in a "balanced state"; disease is due to an internal imbalance of yin and yang. This imbalance leads to blockage in the flow of qiIn traditional Chinese medicine, the vital energy or life force proposed to regulate a person's spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical health and to be influenced by the opposing forces of yin and yang. (vital energy) along pathways known as meridians. Qi can be unblocked, according to TCM, by using acupuncture at certain points on the body that connect with these meridians. Sources vary on the number of meridians, with numbers ranging from 14 to 20. One commonly cited source describes meridians as 14 main channels "connecting the body in a weblike interconnecting matrix" of at least 2,000 acupuncture points.
