Well, lots of people can Ace classes and then turn out to be complete failures at the practical application of the knowledge. I don't think it would result in any improvements on current society.

Our children are our only hope for the future, but we are their only hope for the present and their future.

absolutely. they should know what they're getting into before they get into it.

case in point- my cousin's nineteen year-old daughter was recently found to have been knocked-up by her tattooed, no-job havin' boyfriend. had either (or both of them) had taken classes in parenting (and the stresses that are a part of parenting), they'd know about the hell to come that is being a parent.

of course, said daughter is under the impression that poppin' out a kid is like owning a pet hamster with little in the way of responsibility or consequence. she'll be in for a BIG surprise come in the next nine months, if not the next eighteen years.

I've always thought that people should take classes before being allowed to have babies..It's nice to know that others agree with me..I was beginning to wonder if I was nuts for thinking so.laugh

Well that's unenforcable, but a class to get a marrage license might be a good idea. Marriage is a contract. People should be aware of the legal aspects of it before they try to get a divorce! This should include legal aspects of parenting & custody.

I doubt it would make much of a difference in the majority of people.

Actually, if you are in the military, they do make you take a class if you get engaged. At least they did when I got engaged when I was in the Navy. Notice, he and I never got married. It would have been a major mistake. Good thing I opened my eyes.

I was married in 1981 my ex was active duty then we didn't have to do that, It would have been a good idea. The preacher that married us didn't make us go through his regular class because of the limited time the ex was home(he was on a carrier). It might have stopped us from making a huge mistake.

It was 1988 and we were both on land. I guess that might have had something to do with it.
