does anyone know if it is possible to cover up scar tissue with a tattoo? I am talking about a 3rd degree burn in a particular shape that needs to be hidden or at least disguised. Hopefully there is someone on here who does tattoo's or knows how the ink works. Thanks.

it depends on the locations shape and depth of the scar. tattoo parlors give free consultations. go in and visit a few until you find an artist that you feel comfortable with. its like choosing a doctor you need to be picky and feel comfortable with them. then sit down and show them your site and they will give you an honest assesment of what can be done.

It is possible but it is probably gonna hurt like hell. Do your research and find an artist that you trust to do the work. Good luck!

Most tattoo's will not take well to existing scar's. Best thing is to get original and creative to the scar

But it depends on how your body healed to the scar originally I think.. |

As mentioned previously, tattoos drawn over scar tissue are usually more painful than those drawn on healthy, normal skin. You should wait at least a year (if not longer considering the severity of the burn) before getting inked. Also, there can be some complications with ink absorbance in scar tissue. There's more of a chance of the ink clotting or bleeding under the skin's surface, resulting in uneven outlines and shading. Also, if you choose to get a color tattoo, the colored ink is more likely to fade more quickly, leaving a harsh outline. Unless you restrict the tattoo to the scar alone, the result might not be everything you want it to. Because of the differences in skin texture the tattoo will look differently on the scar as it will on the rest of your skin.
