what was the movie about? I read a book years ago by that title, about a kid who cold "jump" from one place to another as long as he had already been there once before. Great book.

Yeah it does seem like it's gonna have a sequel.. i think it's almost their obligation to make a sequel since i still have so many unanswered questions as did a few people i went with today grumble

oohh daniel said it was a book also.. i shall try to get that and read it.. it's hopefully more in depth and would help me figure out whether a sequel is coming or not.

I heard they were going to make a movie out of Alfred Bester's The Stars My Destination, but that's kind of hard to picture. Maybe they decided to make Jumper instead.

There's a Harlan Ellison story called "Jeffty Was Five", about this kid who, when he goes to the movies, he magically sees movies that SHOULD have been made instead of the ones that really got made in real life. One was The Stars My Destination, with Humphrey Bogart as Gully Foyle.

If it is the same story I am thinking of, the book was excellent. here is a quick book report (lol) about the one I am talking about.

The title was jumper,a although I do not remember the authors name. I first read it back in early to mid nineties (I was still in Germany so had to be before 97).
It was about a teenage boy (about 14 or 15) who lived with his father, an abusive alcoholic. I do not remember why his mother was not in the picture.
One day, when trying to hide from his father, the kid wished real hard that he could be in a safe place and literally opened his eyes to find himself in the public library with no idea how he got there, and no time having passed.
After so long a period of time, the boy realizes that he has this supernatural power (lack of a better term) to just think himself somewhere that he has been (in the book he has to actually have been there). At first he can only do it when he is in extreme danger, such as when he runs away and almost gets raped by a trucker and his friends.
After so long he gets control of the ability, and decides to use it for good. He robs a bank with this ability in order to fund travel all over the world, so he can have all kinds of places to jump to (as he calls it jumping). He gets revenge upon his father and the trucker both, kidnapping them by jumping with them and dropping them from a cliff. He catches them in midair and does it again over and over again, until he thinks they have learned their lesson.

I do not remember too much more of it I think there was a lvoe affair of some sort, but no idea if it is true.
