Include Christ in your teaching of "Christmas", even though it is an "outdoors" birth which was/is impossible according to historians?

Will you are do you? I'm lost in excessive verbs.
Including Christ in the teaching of Christmas will always be essential to me not because of religion or historical fact, but to set a foundation to promote the aspect of the holiday that promotes good will and kindness. |

Christmas, my friend of friends, is a christian holiday initially made only to cover up the winter solstice of those craaaaazy pagans.
And nowadays, it's another corporate holiday. I don't dismiss the birth of christ, and I don't say he was just a mortal man. But organized religion tends to screw these things up. Worship and appreciate the birth, death, and life of Christ everyday, or don't recognize it at all. There shouldn't be specialized days of recognition for these such things. |

Lol I'd love to hear your theory on black history month. But that's a topic for a different thread, haha. |

Include Christ in your teaching of "Christmas", even though it is an "outdoors" birth which was/is impossible according to historians? Jesus was born in a manger...a food trough for animals. Why do you say that Jesus was born outside? Why do you say that it's impossible according to historians? There is no suggestion that Jesus was born in a cave or a barn, only that he was born in a manger. It's very possible...even probable that Jesus was born in Joseph's families home. "katalyma" is translated as "inn" in Luke 2:7, but it is translated as "guest room" or "upper room" everywhere else in the Bible. Here's what I think happened: Joseph and Mary show up at Joseph's ancestral home for the census. The home is already full of people. Mary is pregnant, but not yet married, so Joseph's family says "There's no room up here, stay down stairs with the animals". You see, in those days, humans lived on the second floor and they kept their animals on the first floor. So I think that Mary was being slighted by Joseph's family, but Jesus was still born within their home. Yes, that's pure speculation, but so is any story of "no room in the inn" or "Jesus was born in the barn", etc. Only Luke saw any importance in recording Jesus' birth and he didn't go into a lot of detail. |

Include Christ in your teaching of "Christmas", even though it is an "outdoors" birth which was/is impossible according to historians? If a person can believe that a child is born of a virgin, and then later rose from the dead. The they can believe anything. Besides, we're talking about people who believe that God murdered all of humanity by flooding the entire planet. With God anything is possible. The only things that God can't do is keep angels happy, create humans who won't rebel against him, and he supposely can't look upon sin yet he can somehow know that you are doing sinful things even though he can't watch. Other than these three things, God can do anything. |

Look, I for one was not here to bash any god or religion. I don't agree with them in all their respects, but I believe in the message of brotherhood of man, and being the best damn you you can be.
I was speaking out against man's love for making up holidays and giving them false meaning. |

I will not lie to my child in any form. Warewolf, I have to commend you on this. It is refreshing to see some families that still think like this. I don't see it very often and I wish my parents had done such a thing with me. Although I intend to do the same thing with my children. It is far better to encourage individuality and self thinking at as early an age as possible but not many do. So you sir I applaud and I hope to see more of this from other families if the future as the world starts to become more accepting of people's differences. |

It depends on what you mean by include or teach...
I do not believe that the man Jesus Christ was the "son of god" or messiah but I would have no problem recognizing that there are many people who do believe this- so in that sense I would include christ in winter celebrations. The longest night was a celebration that greatly preceded the supposed birth of christ and many historians feel that the actual date of jesus' birth was moved to coincide with these winter solstice holidays (both because people were already used to celebrating then and because these celebrations could hide or mask the christian celebrations which were illegal) is this what you mean has been refuted by many? The *timing* of the birth of Christ? |
