Yeah, it matters. When someone types, "your so funny u kno that", I just want to cringe and I can't help but think, "She never passed 3rd grade English.". That could be the anal-retentive English major in me, though.... <shrug> u so crazy u no dat? |

To an extent it is. I am a horrible speller, but I atleast try to make my writings legible. No one is perfect though, so minor typos are alright, but what I hate is the abbreviations for sentences that make me think about what is said.

hell i dont care, as long as the point gets across. i think people put too much emphasis on the proper grammar thing. its chat for goodness sake, not a term paper! |

Typos are one thing... genuinely not knowing the difference between "too, two, to" and "there, their, they're" and "your, you're", etc, is something else entirely.
I can usually tell when someone's just typo-ing away or they really don't have a clue. I'm big on conversations, not text messages. (= |

i try to spell decent but if i can't i abbreviate what i can.or try cheap wording.

It depends on the person. I don't like to be misunderstood and have to repeat myself. What can I say.. I'm lazy that way. So..in order to communicate, I accommodate my style as best I can.
I also am lazy when trying to hear or read... Conversations that are filled with 'Huh?' 'Come again?' 'WTF?' 'What does that mean?' 'Where did you learn to write and speak?' Can really get old, fast. I've had more then a few conversations with people who live overseas and they barely speak my language, I don't speak theirs. Yet somehow we manage to be way more clear in our conversations then many I've had on here, with folks who are native born to an English speaking country. |

Well I guess if my friends thought that of me. That it was that big of a deal. then I they would of missed out on a really good friend. When i see people say that it bothers them, to each is own I guess, but have they ever though that even though someone might have a problem spelling. Does that make a person and who they might be? I'm sure besids peoples spelling, there are things far worse to worry about.....

It doesn't matter to me. I do not make a point of using every hyphen, and spell check when I am chatting. To be that serious in life must truly make a person uptight in my opinion, and not someone I would want to expose my true weaknesses to. If you cannot be comfortable with who you are while just chatting, can you imagine living with that person? Save the grammer police/spellchick routine for the business place, and just relax while talking to someone you enjoy chatting with. Just how I feel, flame on

It matters to me -- if I wanted to deal with people who had third grade reading and writing skills, I'd go be a teacher in the Chicago Public School System and fix cars in my spear time. (That's a reference to a profile I saw on another site.)
Illiteracy is not attractive.... |

Like the woman who said she couldn't date me because I'm NOT a smoker... that's her preference. We all have those little give-and-take quibbles that make us unique. And yeah, there's always something else worse to worry about... (= |
