Montana, It's been so long, it's antideluvian = before the great flood! Lilith -- you got a couple letters switched around in there! It's antediluvian; "ante" meaning "before" as opposed to "anti" meaning "against" !! I suspect the "diluvian" part stems from the same Latin root as "deluge," although I don't know that for sure. Generally see it used to describe homes, etc., that predate the Civil War. "Bellum" is derived from the Latin for "war," which is where we get our word "belligerent" -- also, as in "casus belli," the cause or justification for war. |
