i fractured my ankle two days ago n went to the er, they just wrapped it up n sent me home with a bottle of lortabs. i took the bandage off earlier and my whole foot looks purple, like its bruised. should i just wrap it back up n wait or should i go get it checked?

Why didn't they put it in a cast or something? The bruising is normal (when I sprained my ankle, it was absolutely disgusting for a while). Are you supposed to go see your regular doctor soon or something?

It's probably just healing, there's not much they can do for it.

I would get it check, just in case though.

If they didn't cast it, it is not fractured. If they wrapped it then it is probably a very bad sprain so the bruising is normal. Wrap it back up and keep ice on it.

Well, if you went to the er and that's what they prescribed I'd probably go with that. If you're not sure, go to your dr on mon for a second opinion.

there was a fracture, they showed me the x-ray, it was a small one but it was still there

smile

did they take x-rays?

go back to er.

if it looks purple then it may be broken and no blood is circulating correctly to your foot.

at least, that's what i would do.

Keep the ankle wrapped, not too tight. The bruising is expected as mentioned before. There is some blood that is pooled down there (nothing to worry about though). Are you on crutches right now? Keep off the foot as much as possible till fully healed man

ok- I broke my heel last year so I can tell you - ice and elevate are key in the beginnning. Keep it higher than your heart to relieve swelling.

You need xrays - They had to wait a week to operate on my heel because it swelled so much!

Pain killers - oxycotin and hydrocodone will help. an ice pad - I got mine on amazon.com 14.00 its a rectangular ice pack about 12 x 16 that you can wrap around different parts of your body and it comes with a velcro strap too.

go to yahoo and search under groups for heelies...we have a support group online for foot injuries. there are pictures of our injuries...xrays...doctor articles - and what to expect - what will happen - what exercises you can do after it heals -

If you want to write to me - you can. I did too much today and my ankle swelled. I have a plate and 9 screws so I pretty much am in pain every day but I am walking...took a very long time...

ice and elevate...ice and elevate..
good lucka nd take care!
Lucy

I've broken many bones and had more sprains. I have never walked out of an ER without a cast when I had a break.
