I get a kick (albeit) a tragic one out of the atheist's continual posts that Jesus did not exist and that He was simply a myth. I apologize for not having time to continue to post, but this caught my eye on Fox news today. I just could not resist posting it.

Fox News:

One in four Britons don't believe wartime Prime Minister Winston Churchill existed, according to a recent survey.

Churchill is compared to Florence Nightingale and Sir Walter Raleigh, seen by many survey respondents as a mythical person, the London Daily Mail reported Monday.

The survey, conducted with 3,000 respondents to test their general knowledge, reported other historical figures such as Indian leader Mahatma Gandhi, Cleopatra and the Duke of Wellington were made up for books and films, the Mail reported.

The survey, by UKTV Gold, also found that Sherlock Holmes was a real person.

Young Britons under 20 lack a basic historical education according to the survey results, historian Correlli Barnett told the Daily Mail.

"This suggests a complete lack of common sense and respect for our greatest heroes of the past," Barnett said.

I don't see anywhere in this post that it says anything about Jesus, except where you mentioned it...

There is historical proof that the Jesus out of the bible actually existed, so that argument is not valid.

Are you trying to use the news story to bolster your argument against atheists?

I find it funny that the religous right disregards all forms of scentific thought except when it benifits them and their plans for world domination...

History is confusing to me anyway, but the article makes Brits sound down-right retarded. I don't think they are.

I agree with this statement.. Whichever Atheists are claiming otherwise, surely aren't the majority...

well the idea that jesus didnt exist or that many other mythical figures dont exist could probably be backed up 2 an extent (not gettin into THAT right now)

But Churchill?
The existence of Historical figures from the 20th century cannot be debated, perhaps in a few centuries as time obscures things the existence of churchhill or FDR or hitler could be called into question but right now, thats silly

Just as with all folk tales of old, Jesus may have walked the earth. He may have lived and died as all of us do. The bible is a compilation of old stories. There may be a smidgen of truth in the story. The unbelievable parts are just that unbelievable. Makes for a good folk tale to tell each other by the fireside but it is not meant for literal doctrine or scientific accuracy by a long shot.

As for churchhill and the others, I don't know who they interviewed but I will bet the descendents of those individuals is around somewhere to vouch for their lives.

Billings,

I get the point of your post - very clearly.

Blenheim Palace, just outside of Oxford - birthplace of
Winston Churchill.

When people believe in a fictional character, when the truth is put right before them that it IS fictional, and yet do not believe that such a great man as Churchill existed when the EVIDENCE is available..... flowerforyou

I say, when President Bush complete his 'mission' here, we should send him there. Sounds like they could use a good dose of the NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND idea. I wonder if they would fare any better with it than we have?

I am sure Winston Churchill had a birth certificate or the British form thereof. Jesus Christ was not (I think) counted in the Census ordered by Augustus Caeaser, because, the Holy Family exiled themselves into Egypt to prevent Herod's decree of death to newborn infants. Jesus, was, however, I am sure, presented at the temple in Jersusalem.
So, Winston Churchill was born ( and I have been to his home in England, not inside, but, our tour bus drove up the driveway).
Jesus Christ was presented in the Temple and so the records should show.
Neither matters.
I believe both existed and then some. flowerforyou

To my knowledge there are roman documents to verify the death of Jesus of Nazareth. In order to die he had to have been born.

True it is possible to find badly educated and ignorant youth in England. This was the whole point of the article.
It was obviously the intention of the journalist, I wonder where he took his sample.

I have often led school trips from the U.S. around Europe and of course the American students are all very knowledgable on historical matters.
(This is called irony).
