A single's site is the worst place on the vast internet to discuss V-Day cause many are obviously .............. S I N G L E and have no one to be with, do for .. yada yada.

BUT ... there's all kinds of relationships that we can express our love in besides a guy/girl. ie, What about our kids?

I've always blessed my kids on Valentine's Day w/chocolates, flowers for the girls, a CD or whatever for the boys ..

It's made them know of MY love and it's also taken the spotlight off my alone-ness on years I had no one. ie, it wasn't ALL about me.

But this last year my kids blessed ME. Now mind you these are 22, 19, 14, 13 (last yr) .. they had very little $$$ ....

They had a dozen roses, a 3 ft. stuffed bear AND chocolates delivered to my work. It was the absolute sweetest thing EVAAAAAAAAAAAAH. So many co workers came by and told me what amazing kids I had and how much they must love me.

So ya .. Valentines Day can still be great even when we're alone.  flowerforyou flowerforyou

What about you? Any stories to share about your loved ones?

i love this post! my daughter is always doing special little things for me when she knows i am down. on year i was alone and down about it. we too had little. she actually faked sick that day, stayed home from school. when i got home, she had cleaned the house adn made little red hearts and pasted them everywhere around the house and made me dinner and baked me a pie. it was a chocolate pie. we now call her lorettie like on coal miner's daughter because it was sugar instead of salt like in the movie, but the thought was awesome. just a little stupid story but your story put me in mind of it. we sat that night and did the girls night doing hair, makeup and nails and had the most wonderful moment of girl bonding that night. now after that, how could i get mad at her for playing hookie haha

I always buy my girls a rose and some chocolates! The funny part is that I still get something for Valentines day from my Mom also. I think it is a day to re~affirm our love to the people that we love, not strictly a bf/gf relationship!flowerforyou

Oh, I have ALWAYS celebrated Valentine's Day with my girls

Our rituals include getting valentine's for them to fill out for class mates.. and making something sweet to bring in.

Then they make cards for grandma.. and other family members.

And I always have a gift for them... and they for me. We literally spend a good 2 weeks exchanging little *valentine* notes, cause when they are young, they just cannot wait for ONE day! LOL LOL

My youngest, 8, has already given me a few handwritten & drawn notes/cards for Valentine's.. *giggles*...

And that night, I make a favorite dinner for them.. to further show MY love.

I agree with all of you .. and yes Light, we did the Valentines at school and the special treats. Now that they are in middle school it's different. They don't exchange cards with all their classmates anymore, but still bring stuff for their friends.

And ya we do the cards for Grandma and I do for my sisters.

It's a day to show love for ALL that you care for

This year I will not have my son with me on Valentine's Day but I have indeed requested the day off. I will arrive at his school with an organic pizza and a few other non-food items..

Not everyday your 13 yr old still thinks you're cool, ya know?

 I never miss a moment of being able to tell him 'I love you & am SO GLAD you're MY KID!'

Cheers! drinker

Well I have a 9yr old little man and ever since he was a baby I have always gotten him something for V-Day. In the beginning it was a stuffed animal like a teddy bear and some chocolate (Mom I don't want the heart chocolate...that is for girls) So I get him chocolate of his choice, then he will ask me for a couple of dollors and he will get me a fake rose and go home and make me a card!! I think V-Day is the best when you spend it with your kids cus then they feel more a part of you than they ever did before!! flowerforyou  flowerforyou

For me, V-day was always more about the kids. When they were little we baked heart cookies the night before for their school. My mom did the same for us. I havent done it in years, I think I'll go look for those cookie sheets! LOL
Also,my dad always sends me and my daughter flowers.

Here's what I think is funny. I remember MORE time & energy spent over the years with my kids on Valentine's Day than I have ever remembered with a guy.

I'm not saying I don't have those memories, but they aren't the ones that stand out.

I think we tend to get so caught up in the 'end result' of our lives of 'love' with a man that we lose perspective on the memories that are absolutely the best, & the people that mean the most to us.

Our children will ALWAYS be our children  love  love

I always have a ritual for my whole family. The night before Valentines day I make each one a basket full of goodies and just little sentiments from me. For my husband I always put it in his car so that when he goes out in the morning it is the first thing he sees.

Then for the girls I do the same but have the basket at the table where they have breakfast. I don't so much care for others giving me gifts....but I love to give gifts ALOT.....
