Topic: Why I haven't voted.

I had the chance to vote in the last presidential election.
And did I? No.

My history teacher from high school always told us that if we did not vote, we did not have the right to complain.

I completely disagree.

By not voting, I am making a choice.
The reason why I haven't voted is because I have not seen anyone that I thought was fit to run this country.

People may call me "unpatriotic" but I do not mind.

By not voting, I am saying that I do not like any of the candidates. It is not simply because I just don't feel like voting.

So, even if I do not vote, I still have the right to complain about the President and his decisions.
This is not to say that I will protest or make some "Anti-President" website. I will simply explain how I feel about the current president, and leave it at that.

If you do not want to vote, then don't.
We all have the choice.

I have questioned that a lot.
I would hope that the government would realize that they don't have as much power on us as they think.

The only choice you made was to let others decide your fate.

On the contrary...then they would have all the power....something to ponder if you don't vote

My fate? Nah.
I am never really affected by the laws that the president might make.
I have never got in trouble with the law and I don't really look for attention from authority figures.

I guess I just see it as a great thing that we have the opportunity to vote. A lot of people still don't have that right.

I voted in my first presidential election 4 years ago. There is no excuse in these troubled times not to vote. Its one way your voice is heard.Write in a name but become part of the process. Its a right which many countries envy.

The reason why a lot of them probably don't vote is because of the same reason I posted.
Granted, a lot of them really are lazy, and they don't care.

Even though we are gifted with the right to vote, even though other countries may envy us for it, and even though it's one way of letting my voice be heard... If I am not for the cause, I will not put any of my energy into it.
And that goes for everything I do.

(Holding my tongue...because I have nothing "nice" to say....All I can say is "DOH!" and Im sorry that is your rational explaination for sheer ignorance.)

Seems this thread has stired up some emotions.
Oh well.
Time for some more green tea, and then a cigarette.

If you choose not to vote, then you endorse everything that's going on.

To me it's a copout on a privilege granted to you as a citizen this country offers.

So if you shoose not to vote and the country goes to hell...guess we can blame you then huh?huh Your vote could have made a difference....

I think our Founding Fathers would roll over in their graves knowing the percent of voters vs those who don't vote.... guess maybe they didn't think anyone would give up their chance to make a difference if the public thought the government was doing something they wanted changed....

Well here is a golden opportunity, so you don't like the choices....why? why not? Rather than sit around and biatch about it, get your arse out there and make the changes you want to see....run for office.

For example, who hates the war? Over 70% in the USA hate the war. Solution, vote someone in who is opposed to it. Get the bums out of office. Back unknown candidates. Start at the local level and work your way up. Back someone you respect.

Just because because something does not affect you personally 'right now' does not mean 1 year, oh shyt, or 2 years later.... or gawd forbid some law that effects you when you turn a certain age....

Stop being led like a dog and using this excuse as a copout....

On your profile you have this quote.....

"Only those who dare to dream the absurd, can acheive the impossible." -M.C. Escher

Only those who vote can continue to dare to dream in a country that allows us to make a difference whereas elsewhere those dreams are IMPOSSIBLE and ABSURD to even think or dream about.....think about that......while you sip your tea and smoke your cig.....smokin drinker

If I am another statistic, so be it.
And just to let you know, I will be voting for Ron Paul if he is to run (I am not honestly sure if he is).

I am not sitting here and *****ing about it.
I only did not vote once.
Why? I didn't like the candidates.
I am not political, and this is the first time I've ever brought up this issue.
This is not a topic for me to discuss with everyone.

I stated my thought on the subject.
I would appreciate it if you would stop telling me that I am only leading to the problem.

This argument could go on forever, so you know what?
I am leaving this thread before it becomes out of hand.

Thanks to everyone for your thoughts, and thanks for reading.

Peace,

-Russ

Well Russ you posted in a PUBLIC forum.... and if you did not want to discuss this topic with everyone then that sounds like a personal issue you should have pondered before hiting post topic...huh

Again a copout on confrontation for logical conversation of topic and people wonder why their threads get hijacked because if you can't OP a thread then don't start it. And that is your perception of this being an argument over a logical discussion... yawn

As far as you being a stat, most likely yeah....and being part of the problem is people who don't vote then biatch. Since you have decided to go the Ron Paul way....good luck to you and your party....there will be some lovely parting gifts on the way out...laugh laugh

So post and run.... it will collect dust as many in the archives do....flowerforyou drinker
