Dylan Moran, an Irish comedian, summed it up best, I think.
(I'm paraphrasing from memory here, so don't shoot me if I've got it wrong)

"In the sixties you had free love, drugs, unprotected sex with multiple partners; you had Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin... and when it came to my generation it's: DON'T F*CK ANYBODY OR YOU'LL DIE!! Oh, and here's M.C. Hammer"

Ok, I probably just ruined it, but it was hilarious when he did it. drinker

Can't touch this!

flowerforyou The hippy movement did not die in the 70s and there is a whole new generation of people that are espanding there conciousness, we actually have a bigger job now than back then because now we are not just standing up for civil rights or fighting the war,, now we are fighting to make sure that our children have somewhat clean air to breath,,, and much more.

anyway I'm not to young,, I am just new age.

I'm not saying you are a part of the things I'm going to speak of in the following writing.. I'm saying these are things I've noticed within the 'New Bohemian' crowd...

The hippie movement of the 60's, 70's was all about peaceful living, concern for the Earth, Harmony...etc.. by and large. The New Age is kind of mixed on these issues. It seems to be a more selfish motive and more about proving a point.

A new form of terror has been introduced, called Eco-terrorism. We started hearing about it back in the late 70's.. when groups of young men and women pounded railroad spikes into living old growth to deter loggers from cutting down the trees (a pretty dangerous endeavor when a piece of wrought iron is waiting for your blade). It soon evolved to direct violent confrontation, arson, vandalism and even pollution.

Just in our National Forests in the northwest alone.. They have caused millions upon millions of dollars worth of damage. They also martyr and celebrate those who are caught...

It sounds like the hippie movement of days gone by... has taken a serious turn from the path of peace and harmony.

These are a few of the organizations that are under investigation for eco-terror.

http://www.animalliberationfront.com/
http://www.earthfirst.org/

"Since the 1970s, hundreds of groups in the United States have advocated for stricter legal protection for animals and the environment. Change has been incremental. Some activists on the fringes of these causes, frustrated by the pace of legislation, have become violent, creating an underground terrorist movement to combat companies and practices they consider abusive and immoral. During the past two decades, extreme animal rights and environmental activists, or ecoterrorists, have committed hundreds of arsons, bombings and acts of vandalism and harassment, causing more than $100 million in damage.

In recent years, fast-food restaurants have been firebombed car dealerships and housing developments. Burned to the ground in the name of "ecology" and "animal rights." Increasingly, people that work for companies perceived as harming animals or destroying the environment are targeted as well.

Influenced to varying degrees by their English predecessors and by segments of the anarchist movement, ecoterrorists operate through autonomous cells, are unconstrained by geographic boundaries and are very difficult to infiltrate and stop. Unlike racial hate groups with established hierarchies and membership requirements, for example, an activist can become a member of the ecoterror movement simply by carrying out an illegal action on its behalf."
