Ok, I have to disagree. Being forced into the military or college is not going to be right for everyone. I was in the navy for eight years... and the military is not right for some people. Also, college, while good for some people, is not right for others. All that what you want would become is: more government control/less freedom/more taxes. I just don't see that system working well... For those that do not want to go military there is the college option (and yes I understand there are those who are not physically/mentally capable of one or the other if not both.) And I am sorry, but no one can say that college is not right for some people. I am not saying you have to choose a high level degree or anything. You could go in and get an associates degree in general education, or in carpentry, or culinary arts, just to name a few. As long as you get the associates degree. Now for those few who are not physically/mentally capable of the military, or are not mentally capable of higher education, we find something else to help them out with. Yes, I can say that college and the military are not right for some people. I've done some of both. I've met people who withered in either environment. The problem isn't that we don't enforce education... it's that we discourage intelligence. I know, I haven't been on for a bit to agrue this, but the real solution is a culture that values brainpower and that educates... rather than holding back people for someone unwilling or unable to learn. Rather than trying to force a lifestyle on people, let's try placing value on the good things we want to see in ourself and others. Now, if you want to know which candidate I would love to find: It's the person who states 'I just want the fame and pension.' At least that candidate would be HONEST! |

Education is definitely not encouraged... so true and very disappointing. If you need help seeing this just watch Mtv for an hour, or even the news for that matter. We should maybe raise the bar a bit but I'm torn on how exactly to do that while still accepting people for who they are.
I'm completely turned off by "simple" people.. although I have a lot of love and passion towards children/adults with special needs We just need a president who will make some positive waves AND I think stingray is right on! |
