Nihilism is the belief that all values are baseless and that nothing can be known or communicated. It is often associated with extreme pessimism and a radical skepticism that condemns existence. A true nihilist would believe in nothing, have no loyalties, and no purpose other than, perhaps, an impulse to destroy.

yes i had to look it up... laugh

well... that's pretty intense. I don't see how anyone could think that everyone's values are baseless. I mean, i don't believe in religion(agnostic) but there has to be a reason for existence. If not just to find love and passion =)

speaking for myself (18) rules and authority are part of my personality. i leave for the marines in 5 months, but i guess most of us who go into the marines already have that sense of authority and justice

I have some nihilistic ideals, I don't believe it negates itself moreso what people know to be destroyed would destroy the people that have followed it and believed in it. It's not completly negative mainly nihilist's take pleasure in things that others don't...There are many societies that exist without rules and values, plenty of southern american countries and almost all middle eastern (or some sort of militarism).

Go where? A lot of southern america is currently under guerilla rule (that isn't the government by the way). Parts of Africa are under several militia's rule and/or street gangs, the middle east has been in anarchy for years yes they have laws and they are enforced but rarily if ever do they actually do so. It's not ignorant, it's fact...go ahead look it up (do the bookwork, not the internet).

"There are many societies that exist without rules and values"

it is fact that some countries live in anarchy and gorilla rule, i know that, but you cant walk up to a person and tell them there is no rules and that they have no moral values and not expect to get punched in the face at the very least.

even if the "government" you live under has no rules, there is still unspoken lines that cannot be crossed. Even if your "government" has no values or virtue the people that live there have some level of values that they live by. Therefore true nihilism is improbable if not impossible.

If I walked up to you and said that exact thing would you punch me? If you did I would beat the white out of your skin, don't take no crap from no one and am not about too from you.

in a word: yes

it would be like me coming up to you and saying "everything you have ever believed in is false, and i can do whatever i want and there is nothing you can do about it"

i would expect that to cause a negative response and if you don't think so then like i said, that's ignorant
