This is not a blog about who plays what better or who sounds better. This blog is a simple, unbiased, intelligent look at music, and where it should go.

Music is on the decline. It's been this way for at least 10 years. And why? Music hasn't evolved. There doesn't seem to be anything new or interesting about music.

If you, the musician, are planning on really making an imprint on music's history, you have to evolve as a musician. You need to be able to work with many different sounds, and use those sounds to your advantage. If you plan to live a long life as a band or musician, talent alone won't save you. You need a variety of sound.

If you plan to sell out, go ahead. Sure, you will probably make it big and get loads of money but you won't change the face of music.

If you want to have a long life musically, don't be afraid to try new things. Also, don't rush your music. It helps to have some ideas but it also helps to "plant the seed" and allow it to grow naturally.
If you want to work with others, be sure that you are deeply connected with that person. If you are, you will be able to read each other flawlessly. So much so that you may come to realize that ideas just flow as you are creating music.

Do yourself a favor and don't be afraid to experiment.
We don't need another metal band... we don't need another punk band... we don't need another goth band... we don't need another country band... etc. You get the idea.

Make music because you love it. Don't make it just to sell.

Note: I know there are small bands out there that are revolutionizing the face of music.
Unfortunately, you'll never hear those great bands being played on the radio.

Music is not on the decline....just physical album sales. If you figure in online sales......the industry is doing fine.

I understand what you are saying....but we do need more country music groupslaugh The new ones kind of suck

i agree, too many bands are leaving their true sound behind and adopting whatever is popular at the time to make money. i've noticed music usually runs in 15 year cycles. you get one new band totally different from anybody else and starts a new trend and the next 15 years is a lot of people trying to sound very similar to capture the popularity and make the money.

hair bands for instance. early 80's there were several new unique hair bands that were actually good. then untill the decline in 93 or so it everybody sounding exactly the same. then came nirvana that started the grunge age and that lasted until just recently with korn and disturbed but at least it evolved a bit before it started to decline. now you have the static x, slipknot stuff thats gaining in popularity in the last few years. rap is more in decline these days then 12 or so years ago as well and r&b.

then you get the retro acts where stuff that really hasen't been popular for a very long time is making it's way back into the spot light like the 60's and 70's soul and early rock and your seeing more bands take on that persona like the white strips and such that have adopted a more modernized classic styling.

i'd say lately your seeing alot more bands who don't care so much about the money but make good music because it's what they actually feel. and music will be getting better pretty soon.

all i really got to say is....

pink floyd.

had their own unique sounds and spins on every song. lasted longer then just about every band out there as far as popularity.

no other band can claim they've had 2 albums in the top 25 for almost 30 years. every new generation discovers them and restarts the cycle all over agian.

I was never a fan of Sebastian Bach.
Then again, I never heard his solo stuff.

Dammmmnnnnnn good point bro. Most musicians today want to play what is in their heads instead of what is in their hearts.
