Iranians are actually Aryan descent. Just read a book by James Clavell entitled "Whirlwind" which brought this subject up. I was in disbelief and did a little checking. He is right. They are of Aryan descent

LOL. No, I don't say so. History does. From the Caucus Mountains in Russia, down through Mongol, into Iran. Hence the term Agha Khan. Tripped me out too. I read the book, because of what's going on in the area, to glean a little history. Which led me to research of the area. Since the book was so interesting, I started another book by him entitled "Shogun."

James Clevell writes fiction, but I did find a link to the Iranian socialist party which said they were Aryan decendents from 6000 years back. I would still say that makes them Persian either way, but I see your point.

Yes, he writes fiction, but his books are amazing. He studies the cultures he writes about and uses a historical backdrop, as well as language to purvey his stories. I find it quite interesting that he spends so much time to research what he writes about. Same with "Shogun." Though it is a fictitious story, the culture is laid out perfectly, historically. Good Author. By the way, "Whirlwind" takes place in '79. During the upheavel when Khomeini takes over. It is an interesting look into the difference between Shia and Sunni.

You are both correct -- Iranians are Aryan and Persian.

They are of Ayran descent, but in the 5th Century, BC, Darius I, declared the Aryans to be Persians.

That makes sense. Someone "decides" they are something else, so that makes it so. Could Darius be any more conceited to think he could change ancestry?

Remember in the days Before Christ and even after, kings could do whatever they wanted.

Iranians consider themselves to be persians and have considered such for an incredibly long time. All people have changed ancestry, German is a made up identity, as is African, British, and so on.

Darius I reign back in 500 BC. 2,500 years of calling their people persians suits well with me.

:)

Persia was a country, It would have been no different that making someone an American Citizen. Citizenship is a whoel different animal in the middle east. Just becasue all your relatives have been born there for 100 geneerations doesn tmake you a citizen of a particualr country. Look at the Beduins as a perfect example.

And yet, as Steve pointed out, the Iranian Socialist Party considers themselves Aryan.

is that the way freedom works in your mind?

anyway, the war. it's all bogus, every bit of info we all know. soldiers don't know the truth, politicians only lie, and everyone else "in the know" is biased
