I have 2 boys my oldest Jake is 4 years old and goes to preschool 3x's a week and my youngest is only 7 months old. I am so interested in going back to school, but I dont want to be overwheled. I dont do well under stress and without sleep, but I am already 24 years old and feel like I need to go back to school. I have been off work for over a year due to a back injury at my job, so I am home all day. I'm interested in being a nurse, that is my top choice. If that doesnt succeed something that is health related. Any suggestions or thoughts. flowerforyou

Let me guess WM777 - Did you ever go to college or go back?

I find people who think its "overrated" aren't up for the challenge...

Its tough work. Its even tougher when you have kids. Because of your situation, I would think night school would be the way to go if you are interested.

You don't have to take a lot of classes if you don't wont to... Its your pace.. your house ( ie back injury) Now, that means it will take longer for the final goal but at least there is direction. Don't kid yourself though. Its not a walk in the park. However, anything worth it doesn't just fall in your lap; you have to go after it...

I did go to college. I also went to graduate school. All in all - 11 years.

I by NO means think the school of hard knocks isn't difficult.... It is...

Thanks for your response, I agree. I know that it wont be easy, but it's what I want to do and I feel continuing your education is the best thing someone can do for themselves.

You can do it and it is worth it! Why work at Walmart making even $10 an hour hating your job when you could be making $40,000 + a year and hopefully, love your job??

I have a 2 and 4 year old, was working 2 jobs during last semester, no help from family on watching them and had been out of college since 2003! My gpa was a 3.87, I only had 2 B's the rest A's before, and it is now a 3.54, I managed to get a C in Calculus 2, which I had only taken Calculus 1 in 2002! So I am happy. (My major is Mathematics Education and my ex works 2nd shift, and I have classes in a.m.)

It is hard, but it is do-able!! DO IT!!!!!

Going to school with children and working fulltime is a hard thing. I have been doing it for 3 1/2 years. I finish in June. The important thing is to pick what you want to do and explore all the possible spinoff careers you can have with the major you choose. Remember this decision will better you and your children's life so choose wisely. It can be done. Just make sure you utilize of things at your disposle. I actually just talked a friend of mine in to going back to school. I was not selling school to him, I just simply asked what do you want and do you have the necessary skills to get it. If you do have the skills then make a plan and go for it. If you don't have the skills then get them by going back to school. In addition to finishing up my Bachelors degree I am acting as a guide for him. He has not been in school for ten years. It is an adjustment.
