I'm separated and new to online chatting.
Why do people ghost you?

I've seen replies in forums that women want men to make an effort in their approach. Usually, I read the profile, message something nice and they read, reply, and match. Everything would be going great and suddenly they ghost you. Check your profile from time to time, but never reply.

Any insight? Share your experience.

Why? Well after limited back and forth messaging the one person feels the other person is not what they expected so they take the easy way out by ghosting that person (abruptly ending any further communication).

Sometimes they get interested in another guy. They want to give him their attention so they stop talking with you. They don't know the other guy will work out, so they want to keep you in reserve and think the best way is to say nothing to you.

There's something about you (e.g. a child) they hadn't thought through initially but after a time, decide they don't want to be involved. They don't want to admit it/ hurt your feelings so think it best just to say nothing.

It's annoying and frustrating and tends to the "hi how r u" culture that turns me right off.

That's so lame on many levels. Immature, lazy and shallow.

Maybe I'm seeing this wrong. They are doing me a favor by removing themselves. I would not want to befriend or know such weak people.
Poetrywriter, ur reply made me see things from a different perspective. Thank you.

I've never ghosted anyone, nor would I as I have good manners and feel all humans should be treated with dignity and respect until proven otherwise.

However if a man gets too demanding, starts projecting, or keeps coming back relentlessly after I've told him that 20 years younger than me just isn't interesting and I'm not interested in his offer....well then - I will have to block him to stop him.

I dislike blocking, but when someone says No, it means No and when the attempts to re-engage get demanding, entitled or whiny, well life is short and time is precious. Be a gentleman or be gone.

Fair point.

exactly! This coming from someone this happened to, it is lame & all you said. Especially when you still have to post around them on the forum.

It's not ghosting after a few chats.

Agree. I don't understand why people think they are entitled to an explanation when a person has decided after a few messages that they are no longer interested. I do think, however, that if you've been talking for quite a while (or know each other from the forums) that it is best to kindly let the other person know.
