I missed your reply, sorry... In 2 days she's 38 weeks now!
I talked to her this afternoon and they've chosen to not receive visitors after the birth during the first 3 days :'( So I won't see my granddaughter until she's 4 days old.
I respect their choices of course, but I do feel disappointed.

The weather sure as heck was different when we were younger. Not just better spring & summers, but also colder & longer winters. Real winters.
When I had to go to kindergarten my mum generally pulled our sled all the way there with both me and my sister on it. Always loads of snow, for weeks on end and temps of around -15 or colder where quite normal. No heating nor double glazing or other insulation so upstairs was freezing cold too.
Once my dad made either a horse or an elephant from snow in our garden. A high one, prolly around 1.65-1.75m. He got me & my sister outdoors to show it, we were thrilled! He put a blanket over it and put us both on top of it. One of my fondest winter memories, haha.

I also remember my birthday party was often held outdoors with lots of water and swimming suits/bikinis. Around 1996 that happened often too. I remember as my daughter's birthday is the day before mine and she had similar birthday parties as well. My birthday being May 13th...
I could be wrong, but I cannot recall any recent years being warm enough that time a year for something like that?

It all got more moderate, which boils down to less warm, less cold, more crap weather & lots of wind, hihi.

Your girlie is wise in delaying visitors. Wish I’d done the same. It’s not fun when visitors call and don’t leave until midnight! Yep, that happened to me when my daughter was less than a week old (and me only out of intensive care 2 days prior). Pfft!

OMG that is awful! And really rude of people as well.

I don't think I'd done it differently as I was fine about having people come over. I had a normal delivery at home though, no complications or anything.
And the first week you still have the maternity assistant who will take care of it all, plus hubbie at home to help out with coffee etc. too.
After a week the assistant is gone, hubbie usually back to work, so then you'd have to do it all yourself.
I actually enjoyed having people over. Sharing how it went, showing our newborn etc.
But I can understand if you were in ICU you'd feel different about it all!

Nevertheless I mowed about half of the lawn as that's growing fast now, phew!

Bleeeh weather, Nila wholeheartedly agrees. She wants to go out but as soon as I open the door and she sees the rain she decides against it.

Poor thing, she so loves to run and play outside when the sun is out! Chasing after a butterfly, a bumble bee (never catching either), a blade of grass stirring in a breeze, just enjoying the outdoors
