Ok I'm a part-time poet, and I think a poem is a great icebreaker. However, I am also passionate about my writing and liberally use words like, love, forever, and such. Here's an example:
Always We've shared breathless kisses, Burning touches, Softly spoken words of love, And urgently screamed words of passion. Just us man and woman, One all-embracing love, Since time began. Foreordained to be as one, We've shared this love before, Perhaps in other lifetimes, Perhaps in other dimensions. We've possibly slain dragons, We may have been torn from each others arms, Yet our love has always reigned as one. Maybe we've walked on this earth many times hand in hand, Maybe for only a moment, Possibly for years and years. But our hearts are one heart, They were meant to be together. So when our time on earth, Ends once more, Have no concerns my dear. We will find each other over again And again And again. You see the love we have is ageless, dateless and eternal. It's a love for all time. Forever. -Hurley (copyright 2007-08) So my question is too much? Should I tone down my tomes? Help! |

I write poetry in my spare time and sometimes specific poems for people who are going through hard times. A poem is a poem, we write what we feel and ordinary people can't judge what we write. You can write a poem about love and not mean it for anyone particular, so if women are offended by your poetry than you need to find one who understands.
