Still too early for me to have figured this out but it SEEMS as though NO, you cannot message freely (5 times only) as you could just days ago.

I'll reserve judgement until I know for sure from someone here smarter than me but I just tried to message someone for the first time and NO, it said I had to purchase.

I've just tried sending a message to a random person on the "whose online" section and I have to use coins!!!
Apparently only if you play the "Match" game and you match can you send FREE messages.

This site is starting to remind me of Biden....doing everything in their power to F everything up and make worse than before, not better. Pretty unbelievable really how tone deaf this site is.

I don't play the Match game because only once out of approximately 30 matches did I get a response.

Well I gotta say, I'm obviously in the minority here but I haven't looked at mingle as a viable dating site and am here just to play in the forums. So if this coin system keeps scammers from spamming my inbox I say bring on the coin system!!:thumbsup:

Likewise too, I found today Tuesday evening FREE Coins? !
Nothing for free, only air. So I have an idea as mentioned a move to all pay, or the site has a Hack.
No site is fail safe.
Regards Doug.
PS left the coins as not my purchase. And no intention of doing such.

if both people match with each we can chat for free...but i have to use coins or upgrade to see who match with me to see if i want to match with them so therefore unless i randomly run into that same person messaging someone that matched you is not free so this site is no longer free to chat unless you match with someone but i cant see who matched with me unless i pay lol round and round, so many hoops to jump through just to chat as a basic member

What I see this is not a update , the coin option block the free use, so I can not sat that is positive. I can not use mine 5 free option to contact ore like somebody be a use that coins will block that only pushing to buy more , how to shot down this option so I can use the free options again. it looks great for how tought on that but in practice it is not practical and annoy people, so the gone leave you and the fakes and scammers sta

Still getting several spam messages, so maybe spammers paid? Nudges stopped completely. But basically blank profiles, no pics, all across USA still sending?

So surprised with the coin system now, been here since 2014, it was nice back then, the feature or upgrade of the site is a thumbs down for me. I love M2, but if this feature would continue, RIP M2. ohwell

I have posted this on another similar post:
This is for free not upgrade people. The issue with the double 'like' that becomes a match is that you don't see 'clearly' who likes you (not for free anyway), while you can try to find it if the person is online with the blurry photo and the first and last letters of their name it is at beast a 505 chance. So you have to rely on your own search to find profile you like independently of what others are doing and send a 'like' they also can try to find you with the blurry picture and letters but it seems they made it a very honest site which is to do search or who's on line search, look at profiles and hope someone likes you then you will have a 'match' and free messaging is unlimited with that person. I hope I made it clear. The coins thing is for about one message/day (it takes 15coins to contact a person that would not have been already liked you). So if you see someone you want to message, first send a 'like' and if that person has already 'like' you, you will receive a message from Mingle saying more or less that you are now match and can message that person. If you don't receive that message from Mingle you can use some of your 20free coins. If you come every day (24hrs) I think you get another 20coins free, I used mine yesterday so I was left with 5 coins so today I'm up to 25.

This is new: I can see it will make more difficult for legitimate people from other country to contact people in the USA, Canada and western Europe. Sure it will stop some of the scammer, but I think we were smart enough to recognize those on our own. Most people start by looking as close to home as possible and the algorithm is build to do that base on your location. Anyway like Robin wrote, people will figure it out and will see where it goes.

Now sending phone number? First message? Yeah.. no thanks. But spam has slowed. But not eliminated.
