Some Muslim scholars say man consists of two parts, body and soul. That is, the soul is the spirit. Others believe that the human being consist of three parts, body, soul and spirit. The soul is the part associated with God that leaves the body after death. Spirit is the part associated with the body and leaves him when he sleeps and then returns to him.
The Quran divided spirit into 3 degrees: 1st the tranquil spirit, which is the highest degree that the human reaches. This requires a lot of sincere work with oneself and with others, and sincerity with God while avoiding all sins. The 2nd spirit is a sign of evil that leads its owner to lie and commit sins. The 3rd the moderate spirit, it is an intermediate degree between the two, that sins, but admits guilt, and hurries to repent and turn away from the sins.
The Quran say: This Day (of Resurrection) shall every spirit (person) be recompensed for what he earned. No injustice (shall be done to anybody). Truly, God is Swift in reckoning.
The meaning of the word " spirit " in the Bible
The Hebrew word 'nephesh', and the Greek word 'psyche', were translated into “spirit.” Spirit in the Bible verses refer mainly to (1) the person, (2) Animals, or (3) human life or animal life.
In Arabic translation: "Jehovah said to Moses: “All the people who were seeking your spirit died.” But in most English translations the verse was: " Now the LORD had said to Moses in Midian, "Go back to Egypt, for all those who wanted to kill you are dead." The Soul is created by command of God, and it leaves the body, at the moment of death.

In summary, "soul" and "spirit" are not synonymous. The soul is the power that brings life to the body, without which life stops with death and it does not think or feel. The soul is an invisible power that brings life to all creatures. Spirit thinks and feel so person can manage it. Psychologist deals with spirit but not with soul.

The Holy bible is not a dictionary nor an encyclopedia. Looking up the meaning of words will not help. VanderZon has made a dictionary in which most biblical words and terms are explained in detail, and translated to English. It does make sense to read or refer to VanderZon, because they are among the best one can find, for further biblical text, research and interpretation. Other then that, it's important to understand what text you are reading, and what they mean because the bible does not contradict itself.

Genesis[2:7] tells us that men is created from the dust of the ground, so his color, comes from the ground, and the soul enters the body through the nostrills with the 1st breath, which is called "The breath of life". So, an other word for soul is the breath of life, which will remain in the body as long as we breath. There are no timeframes mentioned and just the entrance of the soul.

The body becomes fully functional when the spirit or words are added to it. The churches know this, and that's why they will hunt you down, baptize you and force their doctrines into your minds, as soon as your spirit is old enough to understand what they are telling you. Their goal is to indoctrinate you, and make sure they imprint a believe system that will last for your whole life.
