This is cute, a comparison between cycling in The Netherlands and the UK.
The guy presenting is from UK.
Funny how people seem to think it is not safe, a nuisance, and so on. As he says in the clip only 1% of ppl here wear a helmet on a bicycle. And indeed I rarely see it. There's no need for it, it looks stupid, and is inconvenient.

We don't get many accidents with bicycles either as it may be rather alien in other countries, we're used to it. We don't know any better.
Most get their first bike when approx. 3 yrs old.
And in cities we even have police on bicycles (otherwise you cannot get anywhere in the centre really) and their official police bicycles too: white with the typical red & blue markings.

But it's a cute short clip to watch :)

Depends why you go cycling :) Many go cycling for their pleasure and leisure. Many places you can go that you can't get to by car. Plus, you go slower so you see much more.
My dad cycled nearly every afternoon with his wife close to his passing day. They usually cycled between 20-40 kms a day. She still does this a few times a week with a friend.
Now me, I only cycle to the supermarket and back, some 500 meters from my house, hihi. The rest I do by car. It'd be different had I lived in a larger town.

I cycle 19km each way into work, keeps me fit alright. Even if city centre traffic is not always nice. And yeah, I do wear a helmet, it might look stupid, but it's some protection if you get bottles, cans, etc thrown at you by some feral teenagers.

That's quite the distance! Respect for that! I'd take the car, haha.
Nothing wrong with a helmet if it's needed. Here it's not necessary, thank goodness.

Takes about an hour or so, the record stands at 45 minutes but I had some brutal tailwind laugh

Anyway, I don't have a driver's licence. Odd, innit? laugh

Oh, then you got no choice.
I took lessons when I turned 18. Good driver, nevertheless, I failed exams 4x out of sheer nerves.
Then went to Indonesia, and before returning after two years, I got my license there. I could convert it to a Dutch one as Indonesia was a colony once, so still some political advantages, blabla.
