“Thinking of the Past”

I sit here thinking of the past.
So much time has passed.
The way I expected things would be.
Seems I no longer can see.
At times it seems.
Those must have only been dreams.
Was I really that blind?
Were they only dreams in my mind?
Seems they must have been.
Just dreams that stayed within.
That was not meant to be.
I guess to some degree.
I knew they would not happen in the end.
But guess at times we want to pretend.
Those things will go our way.
And life will not go astray.
But life makes its own twist and turns.
And in the end we end up with a few burns.
Never do we think that we could end up alone.
If only we had known.
How it would be.
And that we could see.
Then maybe there was something different.
We could have done if we had acknowledgement.
But then regardless it is just life.
You take it as it comes with the strife.
And hope that at least the rest.
Of what life has in mind turns out for the best.
