Topic: Any other non-Christians that are tired of Christmas? | |
---|---|
I hate being drug through the holiday season by my Christian family... dinner for Christmas eve, dinner for Christmas, exchanging gifts, the madness of a huge family gathering, blah blah blah blah blah.
Anyone else just roll their eyes at the whole thing? Christmas makes me feel like a puppet on a string... just going through the motions baby (this post is not intended to offend Christians, please do not take it that way, I wish you all a very Merry Christmas) |

I feel as though the gift thing is definitely going through the motions.
But there's nothin' like a big family get together for dinner. Who cares the occasion. Those moment are special and take a LOT of effort |

I don't like big family events, I can't wait to go home. I don't have a problem spending time with anyone who will be there, but I'm not a big fan of the crowd, the noise, and the general madness

I'm a christian tired of christmas, IMO it has nothing to do with christ and more to do with using lies (then other lies to cover up the santa lie) to boost an economic holiday. But yeah, just another day to me;^]

oh dear it is love and it is family tradition...
just keep it as simple as you can, so you are not overwhelmed & overloaded I think we who have families & friends who love us should be so very thankful & filled with gratitude because there are so many others who have no one and would give anything to be in our shoes Let's not forget the true meaning of this special day it is all about love |

Gotta agree with Irishmom on the family gatherings. But Christmas has definately gotten way too commercial. Get back to the basics

I have my moments. Right now I am ready to just tell all of my family to shove everything somewhere and just do Xmas eve alone. And tomorrow, I am working! I am so glad for that.
The holidays are suppose to be happy, but it seems like it just makes everyone bitter, it just isn't the same anymore. |

Believe me I hear you, I am 53 and still hate the phoniness of all those gifts. I can see maybe 1 or 2, but it is ridiculous, I always think about all the people all over the world in poverty while we all sit around gorging ourselves and giving gifts we will either trash or take back for money. It's a sad state, the get toghether is OK and the eating is fine, but I think it is overdone. I just have two kids and we get together with whoever comes over and we play board games all afternoon and goof on each other and laugh our heads off at who cheats and who can't play right according to the rules. It's fun...maybe you should suggest that we some people there. At least it breaks up the boredom.

I am about as atheist as they come but this time of the years is my favorite because everyone is always so nice and caring and people actually donate, give thanks, do things they would norm, ally not do. Christmas time is awesome!

Now that's a different way of looking at things, see there is always another viewpoint.

As for my faith in christ that is to be recognised on a daily basis, not emphasised for one day a year. Besides, it's origins are entirely pagan anyway. Just another day to me;^] |

Well Christmas is definatly over rated these days.I was at the mall and couldnt believe the people there.Buying buying and more buying. Its all about the gifts and what your getting these days. What happened to the Christmas when I was younger. The family all around, and just enjoying the company. Its gone for good.

Just wanted to throw my two cents in here and bash this holiday season along with you guys........For me its way too commercial, overblown, and alot of pressure. Im already looking forward to wednesday so i can get this mess over with and get back to my normal life. To me its just another day that people want to make this big deal out of. It is no longer about what it was meant to be, its now about going out and spending money on people you would never buy anything for during the rest of the year but for some reason i now have to buy something for them and feign happiness when i open up what they got me. And dont get me started on the spoiled kids that have a stack of gifts that reach to the ceiling, then cry when they see some other kid get something they didnt...yuck. And yes its all about the bottom line......the mighty dollar and lining the big wigs pockets with extra money. Okay im done ranting for now but i have plenty more ammo.

Well, I'm a non-Christian, and I have no family, so Christmas is really just another day to me.
But some of my friends get excited about it all, and I don't have any problems with that....I mean, if they're enjoying it, how does that hurt me? I do think the commercialism aspect has been blown all out of proportion, but that's in everything, not just one single holiday. And they could take 99% of the Christmas music and dump it in a volcano somewhere, as far as I'm concerned, but that's a minor quibble. I don't have any problems wishing my Christain friends (or even my non-Christian ones) a Merry Christmas. It's more in the sentiment than in the actual words. |

Christmas use to be fun because we were poor and couldn't afford a "great" Christmas, it was all about family and having fun, now it's just a motion we go through!

Blue, I think you have the idea. I have been ranting about that for years. I'm keeping it simple this year.

Both of my sisters are both married and have kids so they have Christmas at their homes and I'll go with my brother and mom to my mom's in laws for Christmas. Then a week or so later both my sisters their husbands and kids will all come to town and have Christmas again. Is Christmas over commercialized? Yes. Do I care? No. This isn't about me it's about getting together with the family, watching my 3 year old son open gifts is such a joy for me and if anyone has a problem with that then they can just kiss my rosy red ass. |
