The Air Chief Marshall (ACM) was a guest at St. Mary's School for girls. He was to give a lecture on events during the second world war. He commenced his lecture by saying, "As I was flying over Basingstoke, there was fockers on the left and there was fockers on the right." The head mistress jumped to her feet and said to the ACM, "I am sure the gels would like some clarification as to the name of the aircraft. The Fokker was a military plane, flown by the enemy." The ACM replied, "Ah, yes mam, but these fockers was flying Messerschmitts."

First, good wholesome jokes are getting rarer and there's a quaintness in your narrative that is if I may say, 'touching'.

On the other hand, when it comes to military jokes you will agree that expectations do run high.

Normally, army stories traveling from A to B are treated as bullets. What I learn from your narrative is a fourth thing can happen. Let's run through each scenario..

1. Bullet travels from A to B and hits B - a story but not a joke.

2. Bullet misses logical B and hits C - that's logical - slapstick joke.

3. Bullet turns into the blackboard or jumps out of it - illogical joke.

To the above two, you added a fourth

4. The Air Marshal was interrupted in mid-story; seems bullet stopped in mid-air.
And therefore I requested for rest-of-story

Clearly, as the Air Marshall lived since 'the Fockers couldn't fire as they may hit one of their own'. So in this relative safety - what action from the above 3 - did the Air Marshall take?

Have you heard the expression "Smoke and Mirrors"? Maybe it was "London Fog and Shiney Things".

Have you heard the expression "Smoke and Mirrors"?

Do you mean that fires in London were started as the Germans crossed the channel?
