We, meaning a group of friends, had our Christmas gathering tonight.

I have to work in the morning and now have to wait to sleep. Need the Excedrine Migraine to kick in.

The party started at 7:00 but we ended up having to wait until 11:00 to do the gift exchange because on participant didn't show up until then.

The hostess knew I had to work and that I hadn't wanted to stay late. But then she wouldn't let those of us there to exchange gifts until the last person showed up.

Am I wrong to be somewhat resentful that we were forced to wait so long to do the gift exchange? Am I wrong to be irritated that we had to wait on someone who was 4 hours late to the party?

you have every right to be. I would be pissed! It was nobodys fault but their own that they were late, so why should anyone else have to wait on them. Doesnt make sense.

You are not wrong to be annoyed at that situation. It was inconsiderate of the person that way late. Your feelings are valid. I do suggest not dwelling on it. Release the ill will. You don't want to stay angry.

I'd be pissed too. I'd listen to coquibella too, because hard feelings only affect those who carry them.

Personally I don't stand on social politeness.

I have to go, I go.... "Thanks for a great night, here's such and such's gift... see you another time, bye."

I own me. Not someone else.

I wonder if that is what you are ticked off at....

You stayed... when the reality is, you had a choice, and didn't take the one you most wanted.

I'd have been very annoyed.. Fashionably last is very common but I think the limit is 1 hr the maximum would be 1 1/2 hr. It's one thing being curteous it's a whole other thing to be completely put out b/c you're being courteous... Was this person that important to the hostess or is the hostess that controlling?

She's a good friend and I wanted to be polite. And I'm going out of town on monday and she is going to be feeding my cats and her roommate is taking me to the airport. So I felt obligated, when I really just wanted to go home.
