I also have it on my license as well. But if I had a family member that needed it would without a thought. And was on stand by due to my step -sister almost 6 years now had a liver transplant. And they were not sure what all would happen but she ended up getting one in time. And is doing great.

It involves more than blood type compatibility. They do HLA Antigen testing for compatibility. The donor is also screened for diseases such as Hepatitis, HIV, etc.
I'm afraid you would not want mine... they are full of stones. |

i'd be happy to donate, as well...except for the recovery time. the donor's insurance generally doesn't pay for such, so they get screwed.

Hey it is a great thing to do but......... the donar has to remember what it will cost them as far as bills ect while recovering and all. This surgery is not a one day in and out type of thing. Now if that was all covered and no worries alot more would consider donating while alive. But most insurance companys will not pay for the donar's expensives that is sad.

There could be an age limit too. When I was talking to a coworker about this years ago, she wanted to donate to her granddaughter who lost her kidneys due to a rare cancer. The medical personnel told her that they want people under 40 for donations. I don't know if that is true or not now, but I would think they would be happy to get a healthy kidney, even if the donor is over 40 y/o.
I thought about it but she told me I was too old, at least as a living donor. I think after you are dead, they will take what they can use, but this is what the coworker told me. |

Queene, with my ex husband because he is a pacific islander, the hospital said it does make a difference with race...no idea why but that is the way it is. You should really look into it more queene, that is basic stuff.
