Like you I would defend someone's right to post their opinions and belief, but there are things I won't defend like the "right" for someone to falsely accuse someone of something.

The ability to report is really nothing new, it has always been there it's just official and easier now. An example of why the function is there:
A few weeks ago some one created a new account then started posting cr@p about a member on here and naming them. It was totally bogus info, and it's against the rules anyway. It was done purely out of spite to cause the accused grief. I wrote an email to Mike who deleted the message (and the user who posted it) within a couple min's.
It's true that for a while they will probably get a few more emails about messages that really have no business being reported but in the long run it means bogus posts like the one I mentioned above will be gone quicker and with less fuss. And, they won't have to watch things quite so tightly themselves because they can rely a little more on members to report problems.

My point was what if someone had a thing against & started reportin' willy nilly.

I totaly trust our new group, but not the reporters.

That part's bad for the staff here, but not for the rest of us. I do not believe they will just be deleting post simply because someone reports it. Reporting just means that someone will have to look at it and determine if it's breaks any rules. I suspect if someone started reporting a bunch of posts "willy nilly" their account would be deleted within a pretty short time and the problem is solved

Could not have said it any better. It is all just to give a heads up on post that may create a problem or that there is abuse against another member in order to defuse it before it gets way out of hand.

As far as your opinion actually the site enjoys that the members can speak there mind and carring on debates that are all within the rules as long as it pretains to the subject in hand and not another member then there is no problems.

the report button is really just to save us the time of having to read each and every post.
