A report published this week by NASA's Inspector General's Office (OIG) revealed that in April 2018, hackers unauthorizedly entered the agency and stolen data related to the Mars mission. The report says hackers have stolen about 500MB of data. The hackers intercepted NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) network through a small device (Raspberry Pi). This is extremely tragic for NASA in terms of safety.

According to the 49-page report, the hacker used a shared network gateway to access the JPL network, followed by the network where information about the Mars mission was present. The report says the cyber out has also sought the help of an external system to break into the JPL network.

The main task of NASA's JPL department is to monitor satellites and various satellites orbiting planets in the solar system. In addition, JPL also manages NASA's DSN or Deep Space Network. The Deep Space Network is a worldwide satellite dish network used to send and receive signals from NASA spacecraft.

Sounds true, is it?
