Fanta, I disagree, just because it was not as visible to you does not make it more or less of a problem. If we would have been enforcing our laws back then up until now it would not be the problem it is today. So many families would not be working on a second generation or more here, etc...... That is where the humanitarian issue comes in.

But I do not want to rehash this issue with you. You have misunderstood my stance on other posts and I do not want to do that again.

Can we just agree to disagree this time and wait and see what happens? I know you and I will be standing on different sides of this vote but we do not have to be enemies because of it.

I do get passionate and I do type fast. Thoughts mixed with passion come across badly it seems. I felt badly that people got into trouble, I did not want that to happen. Can we just leave it????????

It was visible, very! Once a week the bus would go through, carrying illegals back!

All through HS we would go pick chilli's in Las Cruces. There were no illegals doing it!
Here, where I know there are 700,000, in 1984, when I came home from Europe, all you saw were seasonal migrant workers! Now, Ha, ha, and they aren't legal!

In NM, any direction you went were border patrol check points. 80 miles from the border. They enforced the laws.

With as many American born, (3 generations deep), Mexican friends that I have, and as many relatives as they have in "Mexico," I never saw the blatant flagrant disobedience of our law as I do now, 2500 miles from the border!

Yes, if it had been a problem I would have seen it, and those friends I know so well, are some of the most vocal, against illegal immigration, Americans I know!

Yep,
Population shifts!!!

Happens every time there is a new census!

Unions shut down, people lose jobs, people move to the South!
No brain-er!

Of course you have to account for a growing older population retiring in warmer climates!

I notice nobody with any real reason why the current system should be changed!

No answer yet to the questions!

When has that an electorial vote gone against the people of a states choice? _________(insert answer)

When have you even heard of the electorial votes from a given State split?________(insert answer)

There has only been 2 times in history that the popular vote and the electorial vote has differed! When?_______(insert answer here)

If the electorial vote from any State went against the popular vote of that state, how long do you think that person, or people would retain their office?______(insert answer here)

---------------------------

Makeup and operation of the electoral college itself are tightly defined by the Constitution, but the method of choosing electors is left to the states. In the beginning many states did not provide for popular election of the presidential electors. Today, however, electors are chosen by direct popular vote in every state. When voters vote for president, they are actually voting for the electors pledged to their presidential candidate. (Electors are named by state party organizations. Serving as an elector is considered an honor, a reward for faithful service.)
