....extreme cases notwithstanding....

I could write my own definition if it will make you happy. The "political correctness scrapbook' is not exactly where I would gather my information. Objective? Notsomuch.

Disagreed. I believe there has to be a cap on actions as well as words...
saying what you want and offending another person to a certain point is called HARASSMENT.
You are saying it is perfectly okay to do this to a large group in the name of free speech.

I agree Blank, the question is when it becomes a form of verbal assault. And that story about the jehovah witness sign I'd have fought myself to have removed. Looking back to my own heritage, I wonder how it felt when my Irish ancestors arrived at the five points. Verbal assault is still assault;^]

The day before Thanksgiving, a Reuters story announced, “A California teacher has been barred by his school from giving students documents from American history that refer to God -- including the Declaration of Independence.” As if our public education system isn’t bad enough, now kids can’t even learn about the Declaration of Independence?

I think what irritates me the most when it comes to PC is the fact that no matter what term or wrapping one puts on something...someone will always be offended. You can't please everyone.

Obnoxious and insulting terms are just that.....however, just because one changes the name of something, doesn't remove it's meaning....For instance.... Throughout history.... Colored... Negro....Black....African-American..... It all refers to a race of people of a certain color. What is derogatory or untrue about any of the terms?
In the workplace, it is "politically correct" to promote minorities or women over white males.....does that make it right? Not always. Some companies have taken this too far in an effort to appear "diverse." (Another overused politically correct term)

Things can be referred to as what they really are... without sugarcoating it with something to make it go down better.....AND without being insulting, rude or obnoxious.

I'm sorry, but if it walks like a duck, looks like a duck and quacks like a duck....... it's a damn duck! Put any label you want on it, not to offend anyone.....but it won't change the fact it's still a duck......

Well the N word stems from another N word which is a direct word meant to be an insult referring to the Nigerian slave trades. A word isn't always just a word, it's the words definition;^]

The word you are referring to IS offensive and insulting to African-Americans when used by persons other than their own race, however, among themselves the term is used quite liberally. I am not referring to the use of such words as that in my post. Quite frankly, I don't care if someone calls me a honkey, cracker or whatever.... doesn't change anything about ME.

Well yes but they are afterall the VICTIMS of that word, and no Honkee or Cracker is ever gonna be as painful as that word, it wasn't your ancestors who slaved for this country. White people aren't supposed to say it for a reason. It's one thing to use terms as that word among friends, you are free there, but white america has no right to use any variation of the N word in the media nor for any public consumption. And for that matter neither do they to use the R word (lookin' at you washington dc);^]
