i went to school with a girl who was jehovah witness and her family didnt celebrate birthdays or any of the holidays if i remember right...? matter of fact she didnt even have to stand up for pledge of allegience. i thought that i could get by with that too so i tried it....lol. didnt work though. i was only in first grade.

thanks for info. The Mormans are really taking a beating now because of the presidential hopeful. Its a rough world out there.
Lots of Mormans in Hawaii...they are very nice to work with and have that strong family ethic. From what I have read, I can't believe in their reasonings and how they came to be.
Looked up the Bahai faith also...pretty interesting.
I like to try and stay tolerant of all beliefs.

mormons are damn nice people. i have some very close mormon friends and even some mormon cousins.

that being said, i think their beliefs are pretty whacked out.

Christmas just look up in an encyclopedia and it will tell you it is worship to the sun g-d. Birthdays Remember John the baptizer? Why did he get his head chopped off. Jobs children were killed on thier day. Yahshua says to remember a man for what he has done when he dies. Crying and mourning is ok but who is it really for? Remembering the person is great. But the dead know nothing. The next thing they will know is Yahshua's comming or when the book of life is opened..Blessings.. Miles

what has that have to do with ANYTHING about JW's?

To answer the question:

The JW's do not celebrate xmas because they realized that God condemns such observances. For example see the first commandment, and then look up Santa and Christmas on the web.

The Scriptures don't actually condemn celebrating your birthday, but every example of a birthday in the Bible is negative, and the Jews and early Christians did not celebrate birthdays. In fact the Hebrew calendar is set up so that those born on the 13th month could only celebrate their birthday once every three years.

Birthday celebrations are tainted. Historically the round cake filled with candles is a form of sun worship, but that can be separated from the birthday. To me it would be a good idea to make sure our children understand that we are glad that they are born and belong to us. I think we should recognize a person's birth day without using pagan symbols for those who care about such stuff.

The JW's also do not celebrate the 4th of July or salute the flag. They see it as idolatry. However, ancient Israel showed respect toward the king, and the nation. They had man made fasts and feasts like Hanuka that were not condemned by God. In fact, Christ kept this feast of dedication. So, well intentioned, I think that they are way off--over the edge--on this one.

Why don't Jehovah's Witnesses celebrate christmas, birthdays and other holidays? I have spoken to them and everything has a logical explanation based on the Bible. They don't celebrate birthdays because 2 of Gods servants were killed during birthday parties according to Genesis 40:20-22 and Matthew 14:6-10. When it comes to christmas, well, that is another story. Jesus was not born in December. According to Luke 2:8-11 the sheep herders were camping out at night with their sheep. It snows in December in Bethlehem. So how was it possible for the sheep to eat when there is no food in the snow? And besides, the only day that Jesus Christ told us to celebrate was that of his death. If you guys have any questions concerning the Jehovah's Witnesses beliefs feel free to ask them and they will explain any questions that you have with the scriptures. Instead of us saying that they are boring people we should do some research and find out why they don't celebrate all those pagan holidays.

Well this has been interesting. One thing I never have a problem with is turning down a WatchTower or Awake.

The Morman church is incredible with its ancestry search...but I didn't know for a long time that the idea was to go back and baptise everyone related to you. They actually have a baptism by proxy at certain sacred sites. A person stands in for the dead person and receives the baptism sacrament.

so then u celebrate him as a great teacher, but not the messiah?

i dont get that view at all. how can u claim someone is a great teacher, yet ignore his claims to godhood? unless u think we was just a looney with some good teachings.

or are u a jewish christian?
