Topic: Whats the point? | |
---|---|
I really don't know why Msharmony's post is always very long? why Tom4Uhere's answer is even longer ? what is the point ??? I don't understand why it matters? It matters because most people are put off by the volume of words. Even if there is a good point in there somewhere it is crushed by the sheer weight. Being succinct in forums is usually helpful to entice people to read what you have to say. Some might say that if a person is unwilling to read through long winded posts they are not smart enough to comprehend or whatever. I say that's a load of crap. The reality is, no one is breaking any new ground with any of these questions or answers, anyway... Amen to that cranky !!!! |

Freedom of speech.
The point is control over what one can manage. Everything else is but fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. |

That's crap. Most people do not like long winded writers, myself included. Just get to the point. Do you like being in a conversation (monologue actually) when you're being filibustered? I personally love someone who can express themselves well in writing.. Sadly, that is becomeing rare in these days of stupid 160 character textese.. If you see it is a long posting, don't read it...simple..no need to waste your obviously precious time doing so. And don't bash the person that wrote it.. Because *you* aren't everybody, and people shouldn't have to change their writing style to suit you or what *you* feel is the majoroty. It ain't your thing...move along to short stuff. To comment on what *you* don't like on a post that didn't ask "Hey..what do you think is the proper amount of words to use, Cranky_Geezer?.." is just silly. |

When reporting sexual abuse simply gets you into more trouble and nothing is done about it. When the people who make and are supposed to uphold the law, constantly break it, and pervert it themselves. When trying to do the right thing, turns the ground into quick sand What is the point In the words of the fictional character Randall McMurphy I tried God damn it, at least I did that |

there are so many areas of life where people just go with the flow that they may dislike or disagree with or that might even be wrong or illegal, because of the perception that there is more risk than gain in doing otherwise. For instance, many dont report rape or sexual abuse, many dont report violations or harassment at work, many dont report crimes they may witness or be victims of. Companies all over rely on this attitude with 'money back guarantees' that they know most will not bother with trying to get. It is a calculation of sorts. Similar to how one probably would not invest 100 bucks on an apple, many see the required investment of emotion, or time, or money, or risk is not WORTH whatever gain may be there, let alone the odds of that gain being the reality. When someone says 'whats the point?' do you think it may just be a matter of picking their battles, or do you see it only as some cowardly cop out? or is it something in between or different? I think we have all said 'whats the point?" When have you? Being a landlord for 27 years, I have a lot of judgements where people owe me past rent. I've never received 1 penny from those judgments. I could file it on their credit, have a private investigator track them down and attempt to garnish wages. But it cost me money to put it on their credit, hire a pi, to garnish wages. I would quickly spend more than they owe me. It's more trouble than it's worth. Some people move from house to house trying to get as much free rent as they can. I have a friend who didn't evict until they were behind 5 months. I get a deposit equal to one months rent. It makes it difficult to get very much free rent. |

Expressing yourself "well" doesn't mean you have to be long winded and trying to seem intelligent. I read more than most. My favorite writers have always been those that can express themselves in a minimalist fashion. Why use twenty words when six will suffice? |

Picking battle or a cop out? Depends on the person, In essence, what's the point? But in this case it's TRUE, where there's smoke there's fire & your senses are correct |

I have rarely said it.
IMNSHO it is a lazy brain, apathy, or depression. |

However, I was initially answering Tom's question, "I don't understand why it matters?" The reason I gave is why it matters. |

The power of words alright ...
Some write novels, complaining in thousands of words, moaning, whining. Yet not being able to change their situation. Others write novels, because they are a fountain of knowledge, and their posts are a true enrichment to the forums. Depends. JS |

I am at the age where I do not use that saying "What's The Point?" I use the phrase "Well that is par for the course." Means the same and it throws the younger generation off.

msharmony... yes ...we seem to have to pick our battles ... win or loose ... and some is out of our control ... but if anyone is sexual or mentally abuse in any way ... then at least go to the hospital to get help ...
I know they try and some just leave in a file ... but at least you have something on record ... if something happens to you again ... court orders don't seem to work ... unless you are vigilant... to stop that person yourself ... your right about the time and $ and even some of the racism that goes on ... they make it so hard to beat the system ... there is really a lot out of our control ... and that is what is what do we do ... everyone is different in their actions ... but always support what you believe is right in your heart and mind |
