When you're out in space you can really go as fast as possible within reason. Mach 30? Like 21000 miles per hour? Way fun. No air to create friction. Flying in atmosphere? Uh oh. That's a problem. Air screws you up. Yeh no more than 6200 miles per hour. And it trips national weather service radar. And it creates good UFO stories for the locals. And it scrambles the air force into action. And it makes a lot of people angry. Yes, yes, don't try this at home.
