The wall would be intended to prevent illegal immigrants and potential
terrorists from hiking across the southern border into the United
States. It would run along five segments of the 1,952-mile border that
now experience the most illegal crossings.

The plan already has roiled diplomatic relations with Mexico. Leaders in
American border communities are saying it will damage local economies
and the environment. And immigration experts say that -- at a cost of at
least $2.2 billion -- the 700-mile wall would be an expensive
boondoggle.

any thoughts?

I think it is interesting that we,as U.S. citizens, have been able to
trot across the border at will for many years and yet we get pissed off
when they come here. I have heard many American people say "they are
taking our jobs". Well, maybe they are taking some of them. As a
business owner I have seen the difference in work ethic between
Americans and Mexicans and folks, we, as Americans have gotten lazy. We
want more money for less effort. We want all of the nice things in life
but we no longer want to bust our ass to get them. We are to blame for a
great deal of the job loss. I am proud to be an American AND I believe
that everyone deserves a shot at "the American dream". I do agree that
they should do it legally but a wall that costs the tax payers billions
of dollars is not the answer, nor will it keep them out.

...we need to control our borders. its about time someone figgured that
out. Funnel them into border control points and get info so we can tax
them and have some idea whose in our country. Just got back from another
country, they have immigration control big time. Its really not a
problem unless you have something to hide.

As a Texas citizen I think it will save lots of time!!
I mean, putting a hinged door low, in an olut of the way place in the
wall has to be quicker than digging a 300 yard tunnel.
Besides, we might get to start exporting ultralites to Mexico.
