Traveling along
the highway
at what I thought
was the right speed
when I was suddenly stopped
in the middle of
us

No lights
no siren
no officer or warning
no one
but the someone
you used to replace
us

Licensed
to be with you
so why am I
like a deer caught in headlights
never thinking
it would be
us

Shaking nervously
as my fears
race my tears
to the end of the lonely road
because there is
no longer
us

One day
maybe with the help
of time's GPS
it won’t hurt as much
though my life's journey
will still be missing
us
