I lov this guy but as a brother, not a lover, he has been there everytime I needed him. Unlike my now ex husband. We believe we are soulmates the catch is he's gay. Can we really be soulmates?

You can be soulmates with anyone! You don't have to be with someone to be their soulmate! I believe my bestfriend is my soulmate (for now) but I only think of him as my brother!

Nah, "soul MATE" means...well you see it there. Sounds like you are more like "best friends" or at least "great friends".

But soul mates, I would have to rule out. In most definitions it would be the person that has EVERYTHING in your life. This one is missing a BIG part. bigsmile

True - I was married to my "soul mate" who was also gay. We are still good friends, but it doesn't work as more.

Just had to ask... you said "did not work as more". maybe my definition is off, or preseption anyway. I always thought finding your "sould mate" was the top of the ladder and it did not ever get any better than that???

Whats the defintion of "soul mate"?? I may need to rethink some things. happy

I saw it as two people who exposed their souls to one another - a very frightening thing to do. when we went into it - I don't think either of us felt that it COULD get "any better." But love was not enough. We were married for 8 eyars - 6 of which were wonderful. But the last two were killers! Very painful. Not intentionally painful, but painful, nevertheless! Three years later - were are friends again, but it was a difficult road.

Everyone here seems to be viewing Soulmate differently...so here's my definition....
Soulmate...that means finding the right person for me, one who I will love so much they feel part of me...so if they hurt I hurt... we share our hopes, dreams & lives together.... She looks into my eyes and I know she loves me. I can see it. I can taste it on her lips. I can feel it when she hugs me. I am what she was looking for. And she is what I have been looking for...if a million people walk by they all seem to disappear when she is here...its the love that makes my insides flutter when she is near and makes my heart ache when she's gone...when just a simple touch of her hand brings inner warmth & I want to squeeze it tight...I believe in that...I wish for it all the time...

This is a good thread. Because I'm learning things from you here.

By seeing how people take a xcertain subject and show so many views..its cool.

The definition for "soulmate" to me has always been that very special someone that you "connected" with in every way on every level. Kindred spirits. It was Oldsage in another thread that said it well. When he was with his soul mate, they knew what each other wanted/needed, without it even having to be expressed. I can do that on some levels with some of my close friends. Like when we see something happen, then we look at each other and not a word is said, but you know you are thinking the exact same thing about the situation.

So thats why I wanted to ask, because the term "soul mate" has different definitions. Not saying any are wrong at all, but just showing when asked any particular question, you have to take into concideration the person's "definition" of the subject matter.

Thanks for the thoughts! bigsmile

my X has a gay friend that she feels the same way about. I wonder how many others are out there? My personal opinion is that you can have more then one in our life. You have a BIG soul.

2 of my best friends in my entire life were gay men, I think soul mates our just that 'soulmates' your souls connect,
It just gets difficult when you r attracted to them and than there is no chance of a relationship more than likely, just has to be platonic

Sorry i was just reading the thing about soul-mates with a gay guy? no i dont really think so,I personally think you need to want to love and make love to your soulmate as well.but what do i know,I feel 2 share that deep intimacy you need 2 make love.that's how it got it's name."make love"
I am sure one could really love one of the same sex or "gay" same thing right? u both check out guy's 2-gether so it's like the same sex.but im sure you could love like a sis or bro,ma or pa,but soulmates with a person u dont make love to?I'm not so sure! know any sweetheart that wants a soul-mate? I am looking as well. All i think is if we took more action and less talk about things there would probably be more soul-mates! we are all just 2 scared to devote it all 2 one,but we all desire too.
some actually do,other's never do, who will we be? We must all open our hearts to a "soul-mate" as the world needs more LOVE.
