I wasn't suggesting who anyone should date. I was trying to point out that we often cross somebody off based on our bias without looking at the whole person to see if there are values there we are looking for.

It all boils down to attraction, romantically or sexually,we are attracted to what we are attracted to .

and not being attracted to who we're not attracted to...people seem to get really butt-hurt over this...

It all comes down to personal preference and what you like and don't. There is no right or wrong

Awhile go there was a thread on " would you date outside your race" I said no.. I was called a racist by a few people here! Lol.. A racist because I prefer white women... because.. well.. I'm white.. so I like that... And I was labeled a racist.........

mmm, I think thats oversimplifying. a preference is about who you WILL go out with, not about who you WONT.

I PREFER taller men, doesnt mean I WOULDNT date a shorter guy. If race alone is keeping someone out of the running, ..... well...

it is really simple..you date who you want, green will date who he wants, and everyone else does the same... Why do you think it's more complicated than that?

I dont. People also do racist things cause they 'want to'. It really doesnt change anything.

I guess not, since everything is racist to you...kinda sad that we'd have to date who you want to not be considered racist... But that will never happen, so continue on thinking all whites are racist because we don't act the way you want us to....

wow. Im just amazed how much gets read into posts on this site. Firstly, EVERYTHING is not racist to me

what IS racist to me is grouping EVERY individual asthetics of an ENTIRE race into an 'unattractive' or 'undatable' box.

Noone has to date who I want to not be racist. I dont want men to date men, but plenty do who have no qualms with race whatsoever, therefore, are not to me being RACIST.

I dont think ALL whites are racist. I do think All people have learned prejudices against other cultures or groups. and I think in AMERICA, with the exception of those who have lived off the grid not exposed to media or public education, ALL AMericans are racist by indoctrination, and White americans have had less motivation than others to unlearn that indoctrination, although some of them have as well.

Yeah, and... that's you... not me. that's the point. I PREFER who I like to date. not what some PC bent person thinks I SHOULD or shouldn't like.

Frankly nobody has a right to judge what someone else prefers in a relationship... nobody. And NOBODY has the right to label someone because of who they choose or do not choose to date... nobody.

When I was younger, I had a stronger preference for black men mostly because it was the comfort zone of what I knew and because of the cultural stereotypes that led my mind to make certain blanket assessments of anyone in other groups just because they were in the group. I didnt like thin lips or pale skin, so I thought I didn't care much for white guys.

YES. Now you get it. I have clearly stated ALMOST ALL AMERICANS are racist by indoctrination, UNTIL/UNLESS they work to unlearn the bias.Me not being attracted to a certain asthetic should not have equated to me being unattracted to an ENTIRE race, because not every white person has thin lips and not only white people have thin lips AND BECAUSE, even people with thin lips, regardless of race, can have many other traits I DO find attractive, like their charm, their intelligence, the way they walk, the way they smile ...etc.

I am glad I worked on it instead of just settling into 'Well, I like what I like" mindset.

so you changed preferences...you're putting a label on something that needs no label...its not bais or racist, its just a preference... You like what you like and that is that...if you want to call yourself bias or racist in your own mind, that's your prerogative...but it's not right to say everyone else is biased or racist because of what you think of yourself...

all nouns and adjectives can be 'labels' but nouns and adjectives are important for communication. Im using an appropriate word to communicate the description of a certain action.

and for the sake of consistency, it is perfectly 'right' to say everyone (including) me is subject to the same definition when they do the same thing.

as I said, a PREFERENCE is about what one DOES LIKE, not about what they dont. what they DONT like is a bias.

I prefer butter pecan, I would never rule out eating chocolate though. I dont have a preference for chocolate, but I dont RULE IT OUT.

I prefer the English language, I would never rule out trying to learn or speak another one though, I dont have a preference for Spanish, but I woudl not RULE it out.

I prefer fiction to biographies, but I would not RULE OUT a good biography, although biographies are not my preference, I dont RULE THEM OUT.

get it? once you RULE something out, thats not PREFERENCE, thats BIAS.
