Yes, I will as long that he will be respecting my decisions and my feelings.

I tried to once. One kiss turned into the kind of laughing that makes you cry. It's just too hard to knock down a solid friend barrier.
On the other hand...I won't date someone I haven't began a friendship with either. I guess it has to do with the length of the friendship. |

On the other hand...I won't date someone I haven't began a friendship with either. I guess it has to do with the length of the friendship. Lol, the same thing happened to me when I was a teenager. My next door neighbor and I were best friends for a few years. We figured since we got along so well, maybe we'd make a good couple. Went to kiss each other and both started cracking up laughing. It was like kissing a sibling. Redsleeper, are you referring to someone you've been friends with that has fallen in love with you but you don't love back? I think that might be a little awkward, and I don't think I'd call it dating, just hanging out as friends... so long as he understood it wasn't going anywhere. It's a tough call that only the individuals involved can really determine whether or not it's a good idea. It's hard in this kind of situation for the one who is in love to not have notions or dreams of it changing. And equally hard for the one who's not in love to not give mixed signals. Best of luck to you if you're in this kind of situation. |

It would depend on the friend...I have friends whom I know very well and know that we could not get together ... our ideas and likes, dislikes and ideas of enjoyable things are different. However we can still be good friends. On the other hand I have friends who I would love to date and get to know much better. I am afraid to ask, as it might seem awkward if they said no. So I would not want to hamper our friendship.

It really depends on the situation prior to the attempt to push it into a relationship, as well as the intent of doing so.. Just to have it as a social status, then not really and you'll just end up ruining the relationship and friendship simultaneously, but easing into it whilst being gentle in doing so may turn out well, besides, being friends for the longest time already partially eliminates step 1 of a relationship, being getting to know them.

No. For me, doing so would say nothing positive about my character for so so many reasons. Other than that, what's the point of "dating" a friend? I mean "dating" is going out to get to know each other, exploring your feelings for each other and how your lives can interact, learning how to communicate better. ...What have you been doing all this time in your "friendship" where you would need to "date?" IMO if you have to "date" your friend...then you weren't really friends. |

Only a friendly date if he has feelings and I don't have.. (but I will tell him frankly that that's the only thing that I can offer.. friendship)
If I have feelings, it's better.. dating is one way to get to know the person more... we'll just eat and have some bonding moment.. nothing more |

One of my closest friends in high school was a guy. When he went away to college we stayed in touch for a few years. We hadn’t spoken in 5 years when we saw each other again at our high school reunion. After being apart for so long we must have slipped out of the “friend zone” because we discovered an attraction that was very different from our original friendship. We dated for several years and had a very special relationship while it lasted.

I would not. Friendships last longer than marriages.
