I am a little troubled here... Public prayer is bothersome for me... Jesus' words on the subject are as follows.... Matthew 6:5-7 "And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret will reward you. And when you pray do not keep on babbling like Pagans, for they think they will be heard for their many words....." Sorry folks... especially the "word for word" folks... No offense intended to any Christians or Pagans... just repeating something I learned long ago... I think that this really is meant that when the pharseas would dress in their robes and put the ash on their head, and go out to the public and pray....Look at me oh mighty man of God....They were doing it for all the wrong reasons. They were doing for approval of man. We are asked to bring our petitions before God.....To pray without ceasing, pray in three or more as long as done with petitions before Gd and giving God of course the glory. Which is why in Matthew 6:5 it is saying done be a hypocrite about it....Don't do it for man...Do it for the Glory of God.... |

You must be using the New International Version. All other versions use the word "heathen." The New Living Translastion says "When you pray, don’t babble on and on as people of other religions do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again." In my opinion going by what the New Living Translations says, to me it describes Catholics with their constant repetative chants and prayers. But aren't Catholics Christians? According to some Christians, no they are not. Also, if anyone here has been in a pentecostal church with all the holy rollin, tongue talkin', and shoutin' that often happens some might think that this scripture is talking about them. But aren't pentecostals Christians? Some Christians believe they are possessed by devils. Personally, I think that some people need to stop worrying about how everyone else is praying and start taking care of their own conversations with their God/Goddess/Higher Power. |

On with it....Yes Catholics are Christians.....and yes I agree that they tend to say same thing over and over.....But I am pentecostal Christian with all my speaking in tongues, praising the Lord, laying on of hands....and I assure you that these are gifts sweet lady not of satan. And do you know what speaking in tongues is? |

And then went on to suggest that I should take care of my own conversations with God??? With all due respect Lady, I believe the purpose of this thread was completely understood by who it needed to be understood by, and I believe that only good will come of it... It is not open for public domain, it is a private matter, done "privately" in public, for the method to be evident by those who understand the underlying intent... which is to "help a brother out"... which I feel I have...
