Topic: Not supporting Domestic Abuse

While I have nothing against pressuring the NFL to go beyond what the typical employer does, I fear that vilifying the league has the effect of misleading the public into a belief that it is out of step with general norms on this issue. Domestic violence is less common among NFL players than the general population.

I'd urge everyone who believes in zero tolerance for NFL employees caught beating their wives or girlfriends to direct as much attention—or ideally, even more attention—at police officers who assault their partners. Several studies have found that the romantic partners of police officers suffer domestic abuse at rates significantly higher than the general population. And while all partner abuse is unacceptable, it is especially problematic when domestic abusers are literally the people that battered and abused women are supposed to call for help.

domestic abuse in any situation is not a good thing. I just wonder the logic behind deciding a whole profession should be penalized because of domestic abusers existing within it in some cases, and continue to be revered in spite of domestic abusers in another.

be scientific!..which international peer-reviewed scientific papers are these claims based on? What are these "several studies"? What was the subject size? What were the limitations of study models?

what work can be done to help and stop prevent domestic abuse?

It does sound interesting. What studies produced this?

For one. I think respect of your partner, regardless of gender, needs to be a more widely spread and promoted ideal.

I do not think men should be hitting on women AND I also believe women should not be placing their hands on men. The double standard we have regarding how 'wrong' either is is lopsided and harmful, in my opinion. Men need to understand its not okay to hit women OR MEN. and women need to understand its not okay to hit women OR MEN. And both need to understand that there are reasonably expected consequences when you put your hands on another person and that, in fact, IF you put your hands on another person, and they happen to put hands back, YOU are responsible(not them) regardless of gender.

For two. I believe anger management should be the go to initial response instead of demonization. People who lash out physically, regardless of gender, often have some underlying trouble with CONTROLLING their anger. In men, especially, we seem to dismiss such aggressive response.

the same types of 'studies' producing the information about NFL players, I suppose.

Politics thread has never required nor been concerned with opinions or contributions based on 'scientific studies' alone, and that is not the point here.

do we need a scientific study to address the reality that there is more than one occupation that has domestic abusers with in it?

do we need a scientific study to address the difference in perception and approach to certain occupations BECAUSE of there being domestic abusers within them?

If the OP is based on "several studies", we need to know about
them. Which ones are they? Otherwise the OP is baseless.

the op is not BASED on it. The op INCLUDES part of an article on it. The questions can be answered without any studies.

There are no studies to prove your post? So the OP is a baseless
story just to bash Cops?

only if you believe anything without a scientific study is baseless, which would make this thread no more or less baseless than any other created or responded to here. ...laugh

I dare you to put police domestic violence in your favorite search engine .. there may not be 'scientifically peer reviewed' studies ,, but there are plenty of other sources of information winking

Studies are typically done fy "scientifically minded" and everything about them, their cohorts, funding, CPU, reporting methods and who hosts reports, etc...Always questionable at best.

Men are victims of domestic abuse as well but seldom heard about nor broadcast.

Some women even set up others regarding.

Men...Women...You just never know what gonna happen today or tomorrow.

Even History is questionable accuracy or relevance.

I have seen articles about players with head injuries and violence. With that said....doesn't mean all. There are women out their that use this for money, fame, etc. Without proof....means nothing to me

Okay, I'm not getting where it makes any sense at all to EXCUSE the NFL, just because some other people are also doing it.

If something is wrong, it's wrong no matter who does it, and it's wrong even if someone has gotten away with it.

Wait, is this about the Ray Rice case from way back?

It sure looks like someone is using the kneeling protests to shine a light on domestic abuse, more specifically cops abusing... really not sure what the NFL has to do with it.

the point is not about EXCUSING any profession, the point is that many professions have domestic abusers within them

my personal opinion is that 'abuse' is like 'rape' and for the parties involved to decide and litigate. And that individuals should face the charges against them and if not charged be allowed to go on with their lives.
